The Travel Diaries of Albert Einstein

On Chinese people
Smart Guy Al wrote:Chinese don’t sit on benches while eating but squat like Europeans do when they relieve themselves out in the leafy woods. All this occurs quietly and demurely. Even the children are spiritless and look obtuse.

Not a lot of love for Chinese. He goes on to great length about those despicable people.

A great deal of love for the Japanese though.

I haven't read it, but I might.

He stole that idea from his Jewish wife.

It's important to make that distinction, because he also had a goyische wife. 8)

Reading more of what is freely available of this I gotta say that Smart Al epitomizes the difference between a culturalist and a racist. He was clearly all of the former and none of the latter. So ... just.like.me.

I was going to launch into a long diatribe about my voyages to and through Southeast Asia, Africa, Europe, the Middle East, etc, but nobody here has the attention span to even finish this sentence.

I'll save it for my memoirs. Then at least my kids will read some of it. They'll likely skip to the last page to see how it ends. Bastards.

Yep, the Internet is full of "Einstein was a racist!!!" and I had trouble believing that, so I went to the source (always weary of translations). You can find links to the archives on this page: https://www.nytimes.com/2014/12/05/science/huge-trove-of-albert-einstein-documents-becomes-available-online.html.

Amusing read, from his wife scolding him for still talking like a socialist and making holes in his socks to grubby Marseilles to Oriental chaos in Port Said to the beautiful but somehow resigned people in Ceylon. (And his hemorrhoids crisis on board. "The ornament of the intellectual", as Arno Schmidt put it…)

I'm a bit short on time presently so I don't know when I will get to China, but for now, if this dude was a racist so am I.

SJWs clamoring for safe spaces: everything which isn't flattering is an aggression. (And "Einstein!" is always good clickbait.)
