Midnight tomorrow night. Mexico City time. :)
Mexico City is built on the site of the old Aztec capital of Tenochtitlan not the old Mayan capital of Tikal. ...
I just looked it up.

Both are "Central Time", same as Chicago. 8)

Tomorrow the world will end and will be replaced by an identical replica.
If you turn it over and look carefully at Southeast Asia you'll see the markings: "Made in China."

I was watching a show on Discovery about "preppers" and end of the world hysteria.

Here's the best one I've heard yet:

There's a Myan Calendar "expert" who says the Myans knew that on December 20th, 2012, the earth would be positioned 3 degrees from the center of the galaxy, and the black hole in the center of the galaxy would send out a gravity wave that would disrupt the earth's magnetic field and knock out all of our electricity.

Wow.

Who knew?

Who knew the Myans knew anything about electricity, or magnetic fields, or gravity waves, or gravity, or black holes, or the concept of a galaxy, or our position within that galaxy?

I guess it takes an expert to decode all that Myan stuff.
Such potential!

Sure.

IN MY PANTS!!!
"If fighting is sure to result in victory, then you must fight! Sun Tzu said that, and I'd say he knows a little bit more about fighting than you do, pal, because he invented it, and then he perfected it so that no living man could best him in the ring of honor. Then, he used his fight money to buy two of every animal on earth, and then he herded them onto a boat, and then he beat the crap out of every single one. And from that day forward any time a bunch of animals are together in one place it's called a zoo! (Beat) Unless it's a farm!"

True Story. I didn't buy into any of the Y2K nonsense any more than I buy into this Maya Apocalypse bullshit. But on midnight of that particular New Years, I was at a friend's houe and right exactly at midnight, there is a loud pop and the power goes out. For just a moment I though "Oh fuck! It really happened"

Turns out that the power was only out on my friend's block, though. Something to do with some dumbass released a balloon with metallic streamers or some such right into a transformer from what I recall. Still, for that brief moment, I thought something really was happening.

Could it be Apocalypse fatigue? Hasn't been very long since Camping. Even the slow-witted should catch on if too many of these predictions are made too close together.

Besides, Camping at least used the Bible, something most Americans at least purport to believe in. The Mayans were heathens. It doesn't exactly fit in with preexisting religious woo so well.

Could be. I don't know. I think it's just that the beleif in this particular apocalypse just plain isn't as widespread as the media would have us believe. I did have one cousin post on Facebook today that she doesn't think the world is going to end, but...just in case...she wanted her family and friends to know she loved them. That's the closest I have had to anyone say they think it's going to happen.

On the other hand, I made a smart ass status update about the end of the world which sidetracked into someone showing me a band I had never heard of called Great Big Sea that I now really like. So the apocalypse has actually been a net plus for me so far.

Let me see, a discussion about doomsday got sidetracked into another discussion which resulted in me finding a band I like that I had never heard of before and I got my yearly bonus at work today.

Doomsday has been pretty profitiable for me so far.

Midnight, Central Time.

Because it's the Mayan apocalypse, everybody alive in the world today is an infidel.

Fourteen more hours, and we'll all now what the Mayan version of Hell is like.

I also didn't have to scrape any frost off my windows this morning and I got a good night's sleep last night for the first time in weeks.

For Doomsday, today is going suspiciously well, if the day doesn't go completely to shit by 3:00 PM, I am going to panic because that means its all saving up to happen at once.
