A pattern of wrong decisions.
A diary entry dated May 27, 1980, said the Emperor wanted to convey his regret over the Sino-Japanese War to visiting Chinese Prime Minister Hua Guofeng, but that other senior officials of the agency opposed the idea for fear of a backlash from rightists.

And what would the rightists do?

Hirohito was a bad combination of selfishness and spinelessness to the end. Just this gesture would have gone a long way.

But no.

For $450, This Japanese Company Will Quit Your Job For You

Stressed out, overworked, or just over it: Workers in Japan who want to leave their jobs — but don't want to face the stress of quitting in person — are paying a company called Exit to tell their bosses that they won't be back.

People hoping to never set foot in their workplace again pay Exit $450 to help them quit their full-time jobs; those who have had it with part-time work can pay around $360. And as Alex Martin reports for Japan Times, "Repeat clients get a [$90] discount."

Online map plots the many spots that boast a view of Mount Fuji

I can't see Mt. Fuji directly from my own house because a small hill blocks my view, but it's only about a 3 to 5 minute walk to several nearby points where you can see it.

A strong typhoon is blowing through western Japan at the moment.

This is the strongest wind I can remember. It's the first time I've ever felt my seven story apartment building sway in the wind.

Here is video of a ship blowing into the Kansai Airport bridge. Any serious damage to that bridge would be a major problem.

You live down in Osaka, right? The wind is blowing pretty strong even up here in Tokyo right now, although I'm sure it's worse down there. I'm hoping to leave work right on time today and get home as soon as possible, because sometimes trains get delayed due to high winds or other weather-related problems.

ETA: Holy shit! That video looks like a serious situation!! Fuck.

That bridge is going to need repairs for sure. Not to mention the ship.

Yes, Osaka. It's mostly blown through, but it was strong.

I just saw on the news that a good portion of the airport is flooded and part of the airport bridge is separated. Hopefully just the vehicle traffic section. If it involves the rail line, they're fucked.

The TV news showed cars flipped in Osaka that looked like a tornado blew through.

News this morning said the airport is closed. Still flooded. No idea yet when it might reopen. 3,000 travelers stranded.

Lots of video of cars and trucks flipping over, roofs, signs etc. blowing around like crazy. As I mentioned, it looked more like a tornado. News reported wind speeds in Osaka at 47.4 m/s (106 mph), 58.1 m/s (130 mph) at the airport.

As for the ship, something tells me there's going to be some new rules about where they're allowed to moor in Osaka Bay.
