Seems like as good a place as any to post the king salmon I caught tonight. :freedom:

Congrats! Nice looking King. Thoughts of it on the BBQ are making me hungry. :Hungry2:

There's some nice filets going on the grill in about 15 minutes.

Had a huge steelhead on this morning and I lost it trying to get it in the net. Wish there were other fishermen around, hard to try to control a 10-12 lb fish with one hand while manipulating an 8' long net with the other. Oh well, there's a lot of them in the lake and the season is just starting.

TIL that the entire world hates root beer, except for Americans and Canadians.

What the hell is wrong with the rest of the world?
It's hard to get root beer in Japan. Only a few shops that specialize in importing things like that from America have it. There's soda and beverage machines everywhere but I've never seen one that has root beer.

I think they think it's too sweet. That's what my wife says. American sweets are too sweet. Whatever the explanation is, the Japanese generally just don't like it, otherwise I'm sure it would be more widely available.

Also, where ice cream floats are sold, root beer is generally not available, even though it makes the best floats. Coca Cola really isn't very good with ice cream. They usually use melon soda, which I don't care for.

IMO root beer goes best with vanilla ice cream, so they aren't really getting the best possible way to drink root beer.

I also notice that they are drinking "A&W". They should have tested it on something better. My current favorite: Virgil's

Since this is my unofficial fishing thread I went fishing twice today. This morning I caught a (relatively) small 27" king salmon after fishing for just a few minutes, quit fishing soon after that so I could filet it before the Bears game. After that Bears debacle I decided to go fishing again to forget about it and on my 2nd cast hooked into this 20 lb almost-36" beast. I got a guy walking his dog to take my pic before I went home since my gf was out and wouldn't be back until it was fileted. I actually caught it on the opposite bank, near those trees.

This was only an inch and a half longer than that other one but was much thicker, the filets from this are huge and thick. Took me a good 10 minutes to get her in, she kept making long runs then finally turned on her side ready for the net.

Oklahoma Republicans pass bill requiring state officials to call abortion ‘murder’ in public statements

The bill’s author, Republican state Rep. Chuck Strohm, spoke after the bill’s passage claiming the high court violated “every act of decency and law” when it decided Roe v. Wade. He declared the founding documents of the United States were abused by “forcing the murder of unborn children on our society.”

He went on to tell his fellow officials that they took an oath to uphold the Constitution and “to exercise their authority as appropriate in their respective jurisdictions to stop the murder of innocent unborn children by abortion.”

[…]

Oklahoma is suffering from a nearly $900 million budget shortfall for which the legislature has yet to pass a budget to fix.

Renunciation of citizenship

Renunciation is the voluntary act of relinquishing one's citizenship or nationality. It is the opposite of naturalization–whereby a person voluntarily acquires a citizenship, and is distinct from denaturalization–where the loss of citizenship is forced by a state.

[big snip]

There were 235 renunciants in 2008, between 731 and 743 in 2009, and about 1485 in 2010; In 2011, there were 1781 renunciants. A total of 2,999 Americans renounced their citizenship in 2012-2013; in 2014, 3415 have renounced their USA citizenship or long term residency. The State Department estimates 5986 renunciants and 559 relinquishers during FY2015.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renunciat ... itizenship

And the renunciation fee went from nothing (2010) to $2350.
