One thing astonishes me, I would almost say stupefies me, namely, that in this scientific age of ours, after so many daily scandals and revelations, there can still exist in our dear America one voter, one single voter that irrational, inorganic, dreadful animal who allows his life to be disturbed, all his dreams and pleasures to be interrupted, merely to vote for someone or something.
— Octave Mirbeau, Voters Strike (1888)

Thoughts about voting? George Carlin has some of those:

That reminds me of a classic from Yogi Berra: "It's tough to make predictions, especially about the future."

And his other one: "The future ain't what it used to be."

Number 10 reminds me of one from parachute school: You don't need a parachute to jump out of plane, unless you want to do it more than once.

And that reminds me of an actual question on the written test before you make your first skydive:

Q: What's the most important thing on every jump?

A: Have an open parachute before you get to the ground.

Seriously.

You do not ever want to forget that. And yet every year, it seems someone forgets.

The flash of light you saw in the sky was not a UFO. Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light from Venus.

Shit happens. The older you get, the more often shit happens. So you have to try not to give a shit even when you do. Because, if you give too many shits, you've created your own shit creek and there's no way out other than swimming through the shit. Oh, and fuck.

If whatever we wanted to say is not already contained within the episodes of the series then I failed in the production of them and any amount of chit-chat now will not make good that omission.

I'm not convinced that you do have strange days. You know? You've been coming to me for three years, and it's always the exact same story, you know? Toby's a sweetheart, Kit's an animal. It never changes. Your days are all screwed up, so that means, by definition, that they're not actually strange. Do you understand me?

If you fuck a gorilla once, then that is strange, and it's sad, but if you fuck a gorilla every single day, then you're just into fucking gorillas.

Not that there is anything wrong with that, of course. We don't judge you.

They've also been known to come back as Trumps "Great Ideas...Great Ideas."
You can lead them to knowledge, but you can't make them think.

Home Is So Sad by Philip Larkin

Home is so sad. It stays as it was left,
Shaped in the comfort of the last to go
As if to win them back. Instead, bereft
Of anyone to please, it withers so,
Having no heart to put aside the theft.

And turn again to what it started as,
A joyous shot at how things ought to be,
Long fallen wide. You can see how it was:
Look at the pictures and the cutlery.
The music in the piano stool. That vase.
Shit happens. The older you get, the more often shit happens. So you have to try not to give a shit even when you do. Because, if you give too many shits, you've created your own shit creek and there's no way out other than swimming through the shit. Oh, and fuck.

Only someone from the UK would rhyme "was" with "vase".

Frightening Psychiatrists.

Yes, I did.

Not something I'm particularly proud of, but I scared the living daylights out of him.

"You're obviously older and wiser than I." Quoth he.

"You fucking bet I am." Quoth I, practising karate moves in front of him, with the formidable Mrs. Camel at my side.

"I had to make the decision to turn off my little girl's oxygen supply here 18 years ago and watch her die in my wife's arms after your doctors refused to listen to me"

"How do you think that makes me feel?"

"Not very well, I should imagine." quoth the quack, nervously watching me practising karate moves and almost breaking his desk.

Still, he was a gentleman, so I shook his hand, which was gripped with fear, and left.

Mrs. Camel cried laughing, which amused me no end. :)

Reminds me of a lyric from a James Brown song: "I don't know karate, but I know ka-razy."
