On the one hand, I don't think we should be too dismissive of philosophy as an endeavor. It's part of the evolution of thought that led us to where we are. On the other hand, I think Heisenberg is being extremely generous to Plato when he says that physics proves that Plato was right. Plato had some weird theories (ideal forms and such.)

So did Heisenberg (Herrenvolk and such). :godwin:

Yeah I went there. :P

So you're having a bad day?

Just remember, it could always be worse.

Actually, it IS going to get worse. Much worse. So much worse. All you former heros will die, one by one, or worse, get thrown in jail for sex crimes. Your parents will die, followed by most, if not all your friends. Your children will get to know you well enough to hate you. Your wife will stop having sex with you long before your dick stops working. Small wounds that used to heal in just a few days will take weeks to heal, and then months, and finally your body will give up on healing small wounds altogether, and then big ones. Before you know it, everyone left alive that you know will be waiting impatiently for you to die so they can use whatever money you have left to pay off some of their debts, except you won't have any money because the banks will have swindled you out if all of it.

What I'm trying to say is, have a nice day.

Look, Bruce. Don't know how to break it to you. But, really, your optimism is getting out of hand.

That's just everybody's fate – so what?

While you could have to watch society slowly collapse and rot. Or some pandemic wipe humanity out. Or a supervolcano roast everything to ash. Or water get so scarce you'd have to drink your own pee just to try to stay alive. Earthquakes (comrade Gram sinking with Californica, ed surreptitiously extending lake ed to the whole of the Gulf). Megatornadoes slurping you out of your basement. The Mormons finding incontrovertible proof that Smith told the truth, and you having to convert to a cleaner, boring, life. The intergalactic reptile people coming back for the harvest, deeming you a tasty morsel. Robots getting sentient and that fiery little Italian electrodildo developing a crush on you. Her Turn's mummy getting re-elected for the fifteenth time. SJW pink brigades condemning you to a reeducation camp (harsh regime) in Alaska to learn indigenous pottery, Lacanian philosophy and nonviolent, genderfluid, arithmetic. Svalbard, your new home, electing you president – and you having to work like a slave for the community instead of just strolling around with the polar bears…

So, yes, have a nice day.

Faith may be defined briefly as an illogical belief in the occurrence of the improbable. A man full of faith is simply one who has lost (or never had) the capacity for clear and realistic thought. He is not a mere ass; he is actually ill. Worse, he is incurable.
