Fuck. Sorry Bruce.

I haven't been sick in 6 years. Had to be today.

Best food all year, and it's going to taste like cardboard.

You know what my boss said today when I told her I was getting sick?

"Look on the bright side. You'll have a whole four days to get better before going back to work."

Ah, typical! That's just your unconscious feeling guilty for you taking a vacation. You must explain to it – in one-syllable words, it's a bit dumb – that you got a leave not for selfish reasons but for the greater good of the company. Or you would be chained to your lab bench and have to sleep under it. See, simple arguments work best.

It will work, I have faith in you.

Extremely funny, needs just a tad suspension of disbelief. Groddeck wrote it in the form of letters to a female friend, but actually sent them to Freud.

Nice idea. Not just Breaking Bad, but Breaking Worse.

http://breakingbad.wikia.com/wiki/Pseudoephedrine
Pseudoephedrine, also known as Pseudo or Sudo for short, is a chemical compound commonly found in anti-allergy medicines. It is also frequently used as the primary ingredient in the production of methamphetamine, which resulted in its use being heavily regulated by law.

Walter White and Jesse Pinkman originally used the pseudoephedrine method to make their crystal meth, but soon switched to using methylamine when it became obvious that they could not feasibly obtain enough pseudoephedrine to produce the quantities that they needed to.
This is not only real chemistry, but the alternative synthetic route is also real chemistry.

The DEA put so many restrictions on pseudoephedrine in an attempt to curb methamphetamine market that it is now easier to buy illegal methamphetamine and oxidize it to make pseudoephedrine. I have no doubt that Walter White would do this if he felt the way I do right now. 8)

I have a copy of it, and have read it.

But not the edition with that cool cover.

Could be worse. You could be the guy at my office whose leg was swollen after a flight from New Jersey to Cleveland. Ignored it for several days! Classic DVT. Laid up for several days and on blood thinners.

It really has been 6 years since the last time I was sick.

Know how I can tell?

Being an analytical scientist in the pharma industry, I'm the only one in the family that bothers to check the expiration dates on drugs (do it, fools, seriously). I went into the medicine cabinet, looking for something that could give me relief. Expiration dates ranged from 2011 to 2016. WTF? I ended up throwing away everything except for TUMS and my wife's mystery drugs from China, which don't have expiration dates, and thus I refuse to touch.

Now I have to decide whether to go out there in the cold to make a CVS run, or just stay here and suffer. :(

The good times when they were still feral (and entertaining). The cover is from Dalí's Geopoliticus Child Watching the Birth of the New Man.

You didn't know that?

Yeah.

My boss and my wife are practically the same person. They met for the first time after my car accident a year ago. They met at the hospital as I was being discharged, 4 hours after the 60mph crash. I wanted to go home, but my boss and wife wanted to go to Applebees.

Picture it. I'm sitting there at Applebees, oil stains on my coat, dried blood on my hands and face, bits of glass still in my hair, and my wife and boss are chit-chatting over tips on how to most effectively control me. Asking if I want to stay longer for desert. No. Well, fuck all, how inconsiderate of me. I didn't even ask if they wanted desert. You see, that's the problem. I'm just so inconsiderate.

I'm still not fully convinced that I'm alive. If someone told me that I've really been in hell for all of my life, that wouldn't surprise me. It would explain how I managed to survive multiple close-calls that should have killed me. It would also explain why I put up with the shit that I do. Some part of my miserable eternal spirit knows that there's no escape. :|

I can't lay around in bed all day. It's family picture day. We (the royal WE, this is news to me) have been planning this for months. The picture of us in the hallway is too old. The kids were like 8 and 4.

I stop to look a this picture. I remember it well. It was six years ago in November. I was sick that that day. Something familiar here. You can see the suffering on my face. She made us put on summer clothes and go outside.

Long story short....after much outrage...history repeated itself. We are soon too have another hallway picture to commemorate this fine November day.
