One man's terrorist is another's freedom fighter.

Jaw-jaw is better than war-war, as Churchill may have been misquoted.
Sure.

This is like being pissed off at Churchill for his response to the general strike and then his beating the war drums in the 30s... so you decide to vote for oswald mosley. Hey, he'll talk to hitler, right? . And that's better than war.

Talking means a willingness to compromise, which is good when they have some stated aim other than exterminating you.
Do you really want to meet them half way on that one?

Why does the UK need to mediate?

I certainly think things would go smoother without the US arming both sides while talking about talking.

And how far did Mosley get? Nowhere.

When Churchill was forced to go to war, he did so, quite successfully.

Neville Chamberlain tried speaking to Hitler and failed. Really failed.

But he tried, and millions of deaths could have been avoided had he succeeded.
Shit happens. The older you get, the more often shit happens. So you have to try not to give a shit even when you do. Because, if you give too many shits, you've created your own shit creek and there's no way out other than swimming through the shit. Oh, and fuck.

We must be thinking of different Hitlers.

His mistake was thinking it was possible for it not to fail.

You can't meet a would be exterminator half way. Not shouldn't. Can't.

Meghan and Harry face 'tax nightmare' from US officials

The Royal Family faces a tax "nightmare" as US officials examine whether Meghan and Harry owe them a slice of their multi-million-pound fortune, according to reports.

The Duchess of Sussex is still an American citizen so has to pay tax in the US, and this could extend to anyone else she draws money from, including her husband.

This could deplete both her $5million US fortune and Prince Harry's main source of private wealth, a £300,000-a-year ($559,000 NZD) trust fund on which he pays UK income tax.

The probe could even extend to the Queen and Prince Charles as they provide funding for the couple, aides told the Sunday Express, which reported that the royals are set to employ a team of US financial consultants to deal with the issue.

"We're looking at a level of financial exposure the Royal Family has never had to face before," one of the aides said.

The US Internal Revenue Service is known for being extremely strict in tracking down people they believe owe them money.

Meghan is reportedly living in the UK on a family visa, but she will have a complicated tax status as long as she remains a US citizen.

Seriously, though, wouldn't it be good to see an international peace-broker? I'm not implying that Corbyn will always be successful but he's a damn sight better than Donald Trump!

No. Really no. And this is a basic philosophical difference, not partisan politics.

And please, I am not holding up Trump as an exemplar. :o

Doc, it's fucking tough to broker a peace deal between people who hate each other for ideological/theological reasons. John Major managed it in Northern Ireland. Maybe, just maybe Corbyn is in with a chance. Anyone here who wouldn't want to see peace in the Middle-East?

Firstly, the approach of cozying up to friends in Hamas while demonizing Israel, seems morally blind.

Secondly, it would only make sense if it is Israel who is the intransigent problem. That isn’t so (well, unless you consider Israel wanting to continue to exist as intransigence ).

Ambrose Bierce wrote: "In time of peace prepare for war" has a deeper meaning than is commonly discerned; it means, not merely that all things earthly have an end—that change is the one immutable and eternal law—but that the soil of peace is thickly sown with the seeds of war and singularly suited to their germination and growth.

Family find mummified remains of baby brother they never knew existed at home of dead mother

Three siblings clearing the home of their dead mother discovered the mummified remains of a brother they never knew existed, an inquest has heard.

The man and two women found the corpse inside a small box pulled from a cupboard under the stairs of Carol Thompson’s home in Northallerton, Teeside, in February.
