Crazy Cupertino Conspiracy Theory

Postby Nyarlathotep » Sun Mar 11, 2018 5:20 pm

I am writing this from a hotel room in Cupertino, just a few blocks from the Apple HQ. Right now I can post this but Chani can’t post shit because my iPhone is picking up the WiFi and I have reception on my phone. Chani has neither and her phone is a Samsung. We are on the same network.

I honestly wonder if they somehow favor Apple devices in the area. Because usually a situation like that is the other way around

An interesting clarification: is the wifi invisible to her phone, can she see it and it fails to connect, or does it claim to connect but then refuse to deliver any internet?

More or less the same question on the mobile network--is she getting no bars, getting bars but no "4G", or showing "4G" and not functioning anyway?

The ... Effect .. for lack of a better term, is in fact, reversed up here in SEA. We have the effect under observation and continue to study ... it. There can be little doubt at this point that it is a direct result of The Stereo Retrieval Scheme, which we also continue to study.

But, and I can't stress this too much ladies and gentlemen, we need more time and more funding before...

She is not picking up wo fi at all. And she shows “no service” on the mobile network. But I do notice it’s spotty even for me and the best I do in this hotel is one bar

A quick test that should be interesting--can your Ipod project a temporary hotspot? It's a common feature currently. If it can and Chani can see/connect with that network, there might be something fishy going on. If she can't see that network either, it's probably something going on with her phone.

All I know is that when we drove down the coast to Monterey her phone worked fine and had done so since we got home. Too late to test the hot spot thing now

Fwiw, there seem to be some people there who are opposed to cell phone towers in their neighborhood.

https://www.mercurynews.com/2010/12/09/ ... ne-towers/

A trend in 2010 has seen residents descend upon Cupertino City Council meetings to protest an unwanted new addition to their neighborhood. Residents are finding that the city has little power to help ease their concerns and that the new neighborhood addition is not as dangerous as they think.

The issue? Wireless cellular towers and antennas sprouting up near homes, businesses and schools. The Nov. 29 council meeting saw yet another batch of residents come out to try and get a personal wireless service facility project halted in Cupertino.

The application by mobile phone service provider T-Mobile calls for the installation of three panel antennas and equipment installed on an existing PG&E pole located on the 11300 block of Bubb Road. The facility will be installed to improve T-Mobile communications in an area that the city and T-Mobile representatives said is in dire need of stronger signals.
...

The city and T-Mobile representatives stated that the device is more than safe. Exposure levels for a person anywhere at ground level near the proposed facility are 800 times below the safety standard set by the FCC, according to T-Mobile’s consultants Hammet & Edison, Inc.

At the Nov. 29 meeting, about a dozen residents spoke out against the facility, with the main worry being the radio frequency emissions. The appellant, Shaul Berger, said he is worried that the city will become a “jungle of antennas.” Berger, who lives near the facility, suggested putting a larger wireless facility in the hillsides away from residents.

The group of antennas is a low-power personal wireless service facility, designed to serve a small area, according to city staff. It is intended to provide T-Mobile cellular phone coverage to a small area around southern Bubb Road and a portion of Rainbow Drive.

“Currently, T-Mobile has a coverage issue in this particular area, causing its users to drop calls or not being able to place a call at all,” said Dayna Aguirre, a consultant representing T-Mobile.

That's from 2010. I don't know how much the situation has improved since then, but it shows that there's a Nimby aspect to this from woo-woo crowd.

My provider isn’t T-Mobile but that mindset goes a long way toward explaining why cell reception is so shitty there.

Seriously, I get better reception in tiny podunk towns in the desert than anywhere in Cupertino
