All Work and No Play Makes Jack A Dull Boy...

Postby Nyarlathotep » Sat Apr 14, 2018 11:26 pm

I have this long term plan going on, I call it my "Horror Movie World Tour". Basically visiting sites associated with various horror movies I am fond of.

Next month, I get to cross another one off my list when I visit the Stanley Hotel, the inspiration for The Overlook in The Shining. As close as there is to a 'real' Overlook Hotel. They even put in a Hedge Maze for tourists like me.

I am excited

Of sorts, yeah.

With luck, depending on my work situation, next year will see another one with me visiting Castle Frankenstein

Since the year 2000, the chapel at Frankenstein Castle has been in use as a registry office for civil wedding ceremonies handled by the municipality of Mühltal.
Now that is friggin cool. One wonders what the wedding photos look like.

Incidentally, if you haven't seen Ready Player One there's an amusing homage to The Overlook.

They named an actual castle after that Mary Shelley novel?

I did, and I know the scene to which you refer

No, the name is actually a coincidence (probably). Turns out Frankenstein is (or at least was, until Mary Shelly attached certain connotations to it) a pretty common name for the region. She DID pass through the area of Castle Frankenstein just prior to the infamous story night where she created the Monster and there are local legends of an alchemist doing weird experiments there, so some people theorize that those might have influenced her in creating the story. But there is no evidence that it did.

Still, Castle Frankenstein is on my list of shit to see.

You can lead them to knowledge, but you can't make them think.
