Ladies, do you Mooncup?

Post by Lillythepink » Tue Jul 20, 2004 11:12 am

www.mooncup.co.uk www.mooncup.com

I was trying to find any evidence either way as to the health implications of the mooncup. One study I found seems to suggest that the Mooncup/Keeper could increase the instance of endometriosis, but the rationale given would seem to implicate any internal protection.

Does anyone use one? Apart from the obvious shedding fiber/TSS implications, would you consider this to be a healthier alternative? Certainly from an environmental perspective, it's great! but what about vaginal health?

Any medical viewpoints re: bacterial balance etc would be greatly appreciated.

I would be concerned about the possible bacteria/infection risk.

The argument is that the silicon is not a surface that encourages bacteria to breed and the Mooncup gets washed on emptying it, and sterilised between periods.

My ew aside...

No wait, let's keep the ew and add a warning of TMI coming.

All right.

If I'm not on the Pill, I will clot every other month. We're talking palm sized afterbirth-like clots here, that I can actually feel detach from my walls. No Mooncup could handle that.
