Here's how to develop it (no drugs).

But seriously folks, anyone else here ever heard of this?

Nope, never heard of it. Doesn't look like something I'd be interested in trying either.

Doesn't sound much different from a child's imaginary friend. Just a fancy word for the same thing I think.

And grown ups doing it too.

I sure hope this doesn't catch on.

So they are doing the opposite of getting their minds right?

WHATever...

Having had dealings with a person who suffered from dissociative identity disorder, I find the notion of purposely inducing a separate personality/consciousness/whathaveyou to be abjectly pathetic.

For fuckwits who are not genuinely ill, definitely. These people who are making this shit up for whatever reason...can't help them.

There is extraordinary "secondary gain" as it is termed for such people.

There are also actually sick people to expend sympathy for.

Interesting concept. Like those that live in a state of perpetual outrage over historical slights.

Thanks. I looked it up.

Yeah, I was thinking that maybe she wanted to be a member of the rape survivor's support group they have on campus.
Maybe it would also help in other less obvious ways. Would professors give her a pass on course work or exams because, gosh, the poor dear was gang-raped? Would the university give her extra support in some form or another? Financial or otherwise?

BTW, I heard that there have even people who claimed to have HIV, for social and other economic reasons I suppose.
And of course we've all heard of cancer hoaxes.

I have "lived the dream" involving both...several, in fact. Fascinating experience in human psychology, fuckwittery, and asshattery.

Sociopathy run rampant.

"If you don't believe me then you are perpetuating the abuse," which one sociopath said to me after reciting a passage from an abuse survivor's book verbatim, as if it was her own personal real experience, Satanic baby-eating ritual and all. Unfortunately I had also read the book and recognized the story.

She, too, had "multiples," and an affinity for razor blades. Had a habit of of claiming to be raped, calling the cops, getting a "rape kit" done at the ER, etc.

Sick? Yes. Not in the ways she claimed, however. There was only "one" of her and that personality was psychotic.
