Sounds silly, but literally every source on this guy says this.
So what?

I'm having the feeling you're just playing dumb at this point. Why can't "literally every source" just be repeating the same erroneous information?

Perhaps you'd like to list all of these sources. Not that it matters, but since you seem to think it's important. You mean all two of them? Or dozens? What are you writing a thesis about this guy's death? I think your questions have been more than sufficiently answered so that even a small child could understand, and you are just throwing out red herrings at this point.

What Anax said. I feel a little different about what Wiki sez. If I had to put a number to it, I'd say they're right 90% right 90% of the time but never, ever 100% right even 10% of the time. Thing about wiki is that you can, if you care, make them right. Have you?

The benchmark to the accuracy of Wiki is the talk tab. If it is mostly empty, you can bet it hasn't been vetted. If it is more than twice the length of the article, you can bet there is no hope. Just my opinion. I don't edit Wiki.

But even if I wanted to, I couldn't. Because you never provided a link.

Well, that's not so. Wikipedia sayeth, about Maurycy Gottlieb's death:
– English: " from health complications";
– Polish: "from complications after throat surgery" (my translation).
SkepticalSemite (excerpts) wrote:by breathing the night air
others say he killed himself by breathing night air
'knowingly' exposing himself to the night air
all sources I could find on Maurycy Gottlieb's death say that exposure to night air
night air (which was universally blamed for causing his death)
I have 8 links bookmarked (if need be – won't bore the gentle assistance with that), none tells of "night air". The more artsy sites, preferring of course a Sturm und Drang version, say "by exposing himself to the elements". (I could spin my own version: young romantic guy, sentimental disappointment, gets drunk (hey! it's Poland), passes out in some ditch and "in the rain" ( ), &c.)

Not that I was interested in the "night air" crap (a dead urban legend, as Rob said), but that he was a student of Jan Matejko, one of those extremely powerful and influential artist/pundits of the XIXth c. who reinvented their own "Middle Ages". (Poles still feel strongly about his nationalistic-heroic paintings.)
And Maurycy, in his early twenties, already had a nice technique:

I thought "night air" went out with Lister and Pasteur and the telegraph.

In [the good] Korea, fans all have timers. It is thought that sleeping with a fan will kill you.

Image
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fan_death

I'm not sure how that applies to central air.
The genesis of the misconception is unclear, but fears about electric fans date almost to their introduction to Korea, with stories dating to the 1920s and 1930s warning of the risks of nausea, asphyxiation, and facial paralysis from the new technology.[1][2]

One conspiracy theory is that the South Korean government created or perpetuated the myth as propaganda to curb the energy consumption of South Korean households during the 1970s energy crisis, but Slate.com reports that the myth is much older than that – dating almost as far back as the introduction of electric fans in Korea, and cites a 1927 article about "Strange Harm from Electric Fans".[1][3][4]
Meh. Governments do tend to pander.
Ken Jennings, writing for Slate, says that based on "a recent email survey of contacts in Korea", opinion seems to be shifting among younger Koreans: "A decade of Internet skepticism seems to have accomplished what the preceding 75 years could not: convinced a nation that Korean fan death is probably hot air."[1]
You're welcome.

Maybe not kill you, but certainly send you to the ER with massive tissue loss.

Does it still count as "night" air if the windows are closed?

Or does only fresh air become deadly at night?

Found this (emphasis mine):
' One night, when the moon had gone down, as I was sitting on a hill-top, the Ellylldan passed by. I followed it into the valley. We crossed plashes of water where the tops of bulrushes peeped above, and where the lizards lay silently on the surface, looking at us with an unmoved stare. The frogs sat croaking and swelling their sides, but ceased as they raised a melancholy eye at the Ellylldan. The wild fowl, sleeping with their heads under their wings, made a low cackle as we went by. A bittern awoke and rose with a scream into the air. I felt the trail of the eels and leeches peering about, as I waded through the pools. On a slimy stone a toad sat sucking poison from the night air. The EllylIdan glowed bravely in the slumbering vapours. It rose airily over the bushes that drooped in the ooze. When I lingered or stopped, it waited for me, but dwindled gradually away to a speck barely perceptible. But as soon as I moved on again, it would shoot up suddenly and glide before. A bat came flying round and round us, Happing its wings heavily. Screech-owls stared silently at us with their broad eyes. Snails and worms crawled about. The fine threads of a spider's web gleamed in the light of the EllylIdan. Suddenly it shot away from me, and in the distance joined a ring of its fellows, who went dancing slowly round and round in a goblin dance, which sent me off to sleep.' ['The Vale of Glamorgan.' So, we should all surround our homes with toads. They'll suck out the poison and we can sleep safely with the windows open.

Wherever night air is magically toxic, since so much observation is done at night--in the wide-open air. Neo-night-air theorists should be enthusiastic about trying to sell SCUBA gear to astronomers--and anyone else who works or plays outside at night. Monday night sports, for instance.
