As a psychiatrist, I diagnose mental illness. And, sometimes, demonic possession.

Ever had it before? Well you got it again.

As a psychiatrist, I diagnose mental illness. And, sometimes, demonic possession.

In The Washington Post, no less.

Is this going to become "mainstream"?

Get the "possessed" into a lab and we'll see1.

But then he's already tainted by taking psychoanalysis seriously, and…
Spoiler:
… he has a book to sell.

Ah, so that's the angle.

What's Satan's cut?
The flash of light you saw in the sky was not a UFO. Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light from Venus.

Bullshit, bullshit, bullshit.

He is not as skeptical as he thinks he is. It is not enough to question whether a phenomenon could have a natural explanation if you don't check to see whether the phenomenon occurred at all.
"If fighting is sure to result in victory, then you must fight! Sun Tzu said that, and I'd say he knows a little bit more about fighting than you do, pal, because he invented it, and then he perfected it so that no living man could best him in the ring of honor. Then, he used his fight money to buy two of every animal on earth, and then he herded them onto a boat, and then he beat the crap out of every single one. And from that day forward any time a bunch of animals are together in one place it's called a zoo! (Beat) Unless it's a farm!"

So this guy is a so-called skeptic who is anything but. His function as far as the clergy is concerned is to give the imprimatur of "science" to what they do.

The patients (those who are not simply suffering from a real mental illness) may simply be attention-seekers, or they may secretly be hoping to help validate Catholic dogma by providing "evidence" of demonic possession.

Oh, he's definitely a believer. Classical line:
Julia also exhibited enormous strength. Despite the religious sisters and three others holding her down with all their might, they struggled to restrain her. Remarkably, for about 30 minutes, she actually levitated about half a foot in the air.
from one of his "papers" (https://www.sott.net/article/151935-Amo ... Possession).

"Remarkably", yes, remarkably stupid.
