Not exactly.

Insurance companies are not profit making entities. They exist to advance agendas that you and I can only imagine. Their long game is to see to it that certain diseases are largely eradicated. When this occurs, their objectives will be achieved. Why? Why is the sky blue? If you have to ask you simply don't understand the big picture. And the big picture is that it is imperative for certain diseases to not exist any more.

See?

That might be true if insurance companies rates didn't go up when their expenses went up.

So why do you suppose they would do that? Just to give away money?

Anax, it's called pay for performance. It has been around for years, and isn't limited to immunizations (I.e. Includes things like cancer screenings). Google it and you'll get dozens of articles about it. It's pretty ubiquitous in the industry, and is even done by Medicare and Medicaid programs as previously noted, so it isn't just BC/BS doing it, however, you see much more of this in managed care plans. The whole idea is to push preventive medicine to reduce unnecessary procedures, doctor visits, and hospital inpatient stays, and readmissions that all tend to be more expensive in the long run.

Come on. Big Pharma is in the pie. Doling out money like rainwater. Besides the per-capita spending for medical care in America is the highest in the world. About double that of Norway. Think about it. Shouldn't medical science be driving the need for medical attention down instead of it growing year after year.

It is also called "standard of care" which physicians are expected to follow.

Do I need to post more graphic images of measles encephalitis? Subacute sclerosing panencephalitis?

Nevertheless:
Severe Complications

Some people may suffer from severe complications, such as pneumonia (infection of the lungs) and encephalitis (swelling of the brain). They may need to be hospitalized and could die.
  • As many as one out of every 20 children with measles gets pneumonia, the most common cause of death from measles in young children.
About one child out of every 1,000 who get measles will develop encephalitis (swelling of the brain) that can lead to convulsions and can leave the child deaf or with intellectual disability.
For every 1,000 children who get measles, one or two will die from it.
Long-term Complications

Subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE) is a very rare, but fatal disease of the central nervous system that results from a measles virus infection acquired earlier in life. SSPE generally develops 7 to 10 years after a person has measles, even though the person seems to have fully recovered from the illness. Since measles was eliminated in 2000, SSPE is rarely reported in the United States.

Among people who contracted measles during the resurgence in the United States in 1989 to 1991, 4 to 11 out of every 100,000 were estimated to be at risk for developing SSPE. The risk of developing SSPE may be higher for a person who gets measles before they are two years of age.

CDC

Before Klinton can lie about how vaccines cause SSPE:

Oh and from the "Pink Book" linked from the above CDC article:

A total of 123 measles-associated deaths were reported during this period (death-to-case ratio of 2.2 per 1,000 cases). Forty-nine percent of deaths were among children younger than 5 years of age. Ninety percent of fatal cases occurred among persons with no history of vaccination. Sixty-four deaths were reported in 1990, the largest annual number of deaths from measles since 1971.

The most important cause of the measles resurgence of 1989–1991 was low vaccination coverage. Measles vaccine coverage was low in many cities, including some that experienced large outbreaks among preschool-aged children throughout the early to mid-1980s. Surveys in areas experiencing outbreaks among preschool-aged children indicated that as few as 50% of children had been vaccinated against measles by their second birthday, and that black and Hispanic children were less likely to be age-appropriately vaccinated than were white children.

The CDC? You must be freaking insane. Next you'll be citing the FDA, land of the no longer approved drugs!

You're a blithering idiot. If measles was soooooo dangerous why did 1950's parents in the USA get their children infected with measles on purpose to get it over with?

Oh, and on the "Big Phama" nonsense, I could get into it myself, but frankly I've got better things to do than waste any more time on Justine here. Thankfully, there are others who have already taken the time to collect data and citations demonstrating why it is nonsense.
