I recently went down a little internet rabbit hole when reading about the recent troubles at Newsweek.

The company that publishes the current version of Newsweek, the Newsweek Media Group, which also owns the International Business Times, was founded by evangelical Christians with ties to a Christian university:
Why Is the Manhattan DA Looking at Newsweek’s Ties to a Christian University?

Anyway, this got me looking into the pastor behind this university, David Jang, a Korean American evangelist. That led me to this:

Strange Things Afoot in Christian Media – Part 1
Strange Things Afoot in Christian Media – Part 2

(This was published in Patheos back in 2012, but was an interesting read.)

Anyway, the upshot of it all seems to be that Jang's followers have a fanatical devotion to him and lash out viciously at even the mildest of criticism directed at Jang or his movement. (Calling them liars, heretics, etc., even hurling disingenuous slander.)
A fool thinks himself to be wise, but a wise man knows himself to be a fool.

FTFY
You can lead them to knowledge, but you can't make them think.

(Actually an offshoot of the Moonies led by one of Moon's wayward sons.)

Note how they dress like royalty:

This is awesome from the article:
No matter how much anyone tried to explain it all, Carol Ward, 59, sat on the front porch of her old farmhouse across from the Sanctuary both baffled and annoyed. She’d never seen so many people in Newfoundland before, and in all her years there, she never knew hunters to carry an AR-15 come opening day.

“This whole thing, all this, is ridiculous,” she said, smoking a small cigar. “They’re very dedicated to what they believe in, I guess, whatever the hell that is.”

Also the basic problem with Adam and Eve. At least the version they teach you in Sunday school.

My faith and success persuaded me God had a plan. Then I got cancer.

The Prosperity Gospel sort of reminds me of the Sovereign Citizens in that they are both just sorts of wishful thinking.

Ah! but it just shows that her faith wasn't strong enough! She had doubts!

Obviously, I was going to post that last sentence, you BASTARD!

Randi describes a very similar situation in his opening to The Faith Healers regarding a young Asian boy seeking a miracle. Of course the faith healer complete ignored him, because no trick is going to work. Randi and his cameraman see the boy crying outside, and the cameraman basically says he cannot film him anymore. Randi dedicates the book to that poor kid.

"What's the harm?"

There you go.

The more real harm would be if the woman in your article kept trying. See Steve Jobs. See the Supreme Idiot Mother Who Refused T[Get on with it.--Ed.] to receive treatment for AIDS because . . . AIDS is . . . Big Pharma . . . or Wrong Thinking or whatever her insanity was. Her daughter died. She died. There are still fans trying to pretend that she did not die of fucking AIDS!

Mounts Soapbox

There is no greater tragedy than the death of faith. That may seem contradictory redundant oxymoron [Stop it.--Ed.], but from the emotional sense, that is what it is. When I first [Excreted--Ed.] presented the Particularly Perspicaciously Pompously Profound [GET ON WITH IT!--Ed.] Pontine Tumor Proof I would occasionally get this response: "God answered, but not in the way you expected."

"But not in the way you expected."

Okay, awesome, so your daughter--not yours, Anax, someone else we really do not care about--is getting raped by a Wandering Band of Ravenous Wombats and Badgers Screaming "Remember 3/8!!" and my response is to piss on her . . . and I then claim I "answered?"

"Praise me!" I just was a "river"--see what I did there?--to her!

Fucking disgusting. Reprehensible.
Yeah, so, like, your daughter got raped by a bunch of upset mammals, something about "3/8," and she also developed metastatic prostate cancer ["Sigh."--Ed.] that has gone to her pigtails and brain, and we have film of it all that went viral on YouTube, but rest assured GOD loves HER and YOU which is why Trump is President and Her Turn is making millions selling a book that blames everyone, but specifically, you.
