The Two Tenets of Veridicanism

Post by Brother Edward » Sat Mar 16, 2013 7:39 pm

Below are the two tenets of my faith. I have held these to be true for nearly twenty years. Veridicanism is twenty years old, but in the very begining it had lots of tenets. Now there are only two, the truth distilled if you will.

1. God is monistic in nature.

By this, I mean that everything that exists is made from the substance of God; therefore, God is really the only thing that actually exists. Everything else He created from His substance.

A good model of this is a dream. Everything in a dream is made from one substance--the dreamers consciousness.

So, God is the fundamental monstic consciousness.

2. The human purpose is to be Christ.

"Christ" means God, conscious of Himself, from inside His creation. The human being was created for no other reason. It is our place in universal nature. We were created to be the vehicles God travels around the physical universe in.

A good model for this would be a lucid dream, that is a dream where you know you're dreaming.

That is the philosophy of Veridicanism, the Veridican religion is defined by its Articles of Faith. You can read those here if you want.

The thing about those two tenets is that they are necessarily true. That's why I believe them. I believe them, because there is no rational way to doubt them.

Twat.

(I'm a great believer in brevity.)
Shit happens. The older you get, the more often shit happens. So you have to try not to give a shit even when you do. Because, if you give too many shits, you've created your own shit creek and there's no way out other than swimming through the shit. Oh, and fuck.

These are the two tennets of my lack of faith when it comes to someone else's faith.

1) Whatever

2) Don't care.

1) I believe in picking good axioms

2) I define axioms as being good by the nature of me picking them

3) No rational way to doubt, no computer vulnerability to hack, no iceberg can sink this ship . . . these are some of phrases in the class of things I wouldn't advise saying lightly.

1) Treat others the way you want to be treated.

2) Try to learn something new every day.

or the simpler version

1) Don't be a dick.

2) Read.

Some of you are not being as nice as you could be. There is no rule so that's okay. It does get in the way. grayman is being nice. I will take from grayman.

From what is that substance made? Unless you worship the Higgs particle (do you?), the substance of your god must be made of something. Or am I misunderstanding?

Sure there is. They both assume the existance of God and/or Christ. BUt you know what they say about assuming...

From the webs I find ...
In our religion, there is no priestly order. All Veridicans are brothers and sisters, and each has a mission as Christ to carry out the talents God has given them. Brother Edward (Edward J. Gordon) has been tasked with initiating Veridicanism and writing the Veridican Gospel of Jesus Christ. He also serves as the current senior chaplain of the church and preaches on the concepts of Veridicanism via YouTube presentations.
Maybe I'll join. I have some questions first.

1. Who assigns the missions referred to in the first sentence.

B. Who is the actor referred to by the [bolded] passive voice?

III. Above we learn that there is no priestly order and that Brother Ed serves as the senior preacher. Is that a contradiction?

Here is my analysis, as non-judgmental as I can.

Veridicanism is not standard brand Evangelical Protestant theology or Christology, then.
LIBBERULz might call call it a form of Fundamentalism, but your usual Christian fundie would call it a cult.

Not Trinitarian. That's the big difference. The basic Theology is more Jewish, or might even be tending toward Spinoza's philosophy.

The Christology is harder to place. If I were a Roman Catholic smart-ass of the Chesterton type, I would rattle of the name of some obscure 5th century heresy that might or might not really be similar.

This could get interesting.

I'm going to poke around his website a bit this weekend.

Two questions for Brother Edward:

What was your religious position before you came to Veridicanism?
What was your religious upbringing (if different from the answer to the first one)?

I would rather think evidence for the first tenet would prove most efficacious.

Paydirt,

http://veridican.org/vgjc.html

Here's the deal. He has written his own "Bible".
...

Today’s Gospel records are nearly two thousand years old. They are true, but they were written for a culture far separated from ours in place and time, and they are losing their ability to communicate the Gospel message effectively. There are several reasons why they present a less than clear picture of the Gospel.

First, they do not include female apostles. There are no female apostles taking part in the discussions of Christ’s teachings, so the Gospels are automatically gender biased; but we know today that the Gospel applies to men and women equally. The Veridican Gospel corrects this with the inclusion of Mary as one of the twelve apostles, and she has several speaking parts. It also removes the pronouns, he, him, himself, whenever possible and replaces them with gender-neutral pronouns like, they, them, themselves, etc.

...
I'm wondering if this church has any members yet?

Brother Edward:

How do you know there were female apostles?

Did God tell you in a audible voice?

I would suggest further inquiries into the flexibility and open-mindedness of the Temple Prostitutes. . . .

Nevertheless, "evidences"--thanks!--for just the first claim would move this forward. I would also suggest that--unlike Lister--the poster may be someone who is only available a few times a day. So critical questions may get lost in walls of replies and, dare mine fingers type it?!!, NBLs.

Fuck. If I treated my wife like I want her to treat me, we would have had a very short marriage.

At this point, definitively proving Brother Edward wrong (or thereby making him eat shit) is not one of my priorities. Nor am I inclined to dismiss him as "just another" religious nutter, nutter though he may be.

His position is sufficiently different from other nutters to be interesting (to me at least), if only as a study in pathology. And so far he seems to be *not* here just to be an abusive troll.

Just remember though -- Every major religion with a founder had a stage of few or no followers. And I don't think Brother Edward is deliberate charlatan along the line of the late Elron.

The Higgs particle would still be made from the substance of God. And when you ask what made the substance of God, you're getting into the cosmological argument, which would then lead to the logic of the ontological argument.
