John Oliver vs. televangelists and tax-exemptions
Oh shit yeah. This guy takes them the hell on! Check out what he does after the 15 minute mark. That's when he tells us of this:
His own legal church.
Even the rapture ready crowd doesn't like those kinds of people. Too bad the fucking wankers removed the link to the actual site because of "bad language". What the hell did Oliver say that pissed those people off?

Re: John Oliver vs. televangelists and tax-exemptions
If you're going to have tax exemptions for churches at all:
1) You put up with sleazeballs like Kenneth Copeland taking advantage.
2) Or (in my opinion much worse) the government must have official rules about what is a "legitimate" church. That is much more obviously unconstitutional than the exemption.
I'd much rather tax churches at the same rate as any other corporation.
But failing that, better the status quo than the government getting into officially determining religious legitimacy.

I would restate that
If you're going to have a non-profit exemption at all
1) You put up with churches getting them too.
If I had to guess, I'd say there is less abuse on the part of churches than other non-profits.

Re: John Oliver vs. televangelists and tax-exemptions
Legally speaking, the exemption for "non-profits" are separate from those for churches.
For example "non-profits" have to file tax returns and are also subject to all sorts of regulations that cannot constitutionally apply to churches.

As Hitchens noted: "If you put 'Reverend' in front of your name, you can get away with anything". So, no tax exemptions for churches. No tax breaks for the contributing flock-o-fools.

Why would loss of a tax exemption put them out of business? I would suspect that they'd use it as a sign of the end times and try to get their flock to double down.

Re: John Oliver vs. televangelists and tax-exemptions
It might. But we must try. Hope springs eternal, you know.
Main thing is they'd finally be paying their fair share. Revision of the tax code for large corporations/the outrageously wealthy is in order too: Record profits/income, no taxes paid=bullshit.

Good news. Doubt it'll work out though.

Thanks! FSM knows, I need all the help I can get. (In spite of the fact that experiment after experiment proves the impotence of prayer....just sayin'.)
