Anyone watching the Wild Wild Country documentary on Netflix?

Postby Anaxagoras » Wed Apr 18, 2018 7:52 am

It's a surprisingly interesting and well-made documentary in my opinion.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7768848/

It's sort of unique in that this cult had a rise and a fall, but most of the central people involved are still alive, and were happy to be interviewed. The Bhagwan himself is dead, and the cult is not really a going thing anymore, but I think it makes for an excellent case study for how these things happen. It's also just interesting as a story. You can see how the former cultists think differently from the rest of us. I guess some people were just born to be followers. Their highest ambition in life is to "be at the feet of my master" (according to one woman). Another describes how the instant she first laid eyes on him "that was the end of me" (as in she found her life's purpose, to serve this man).

It's well-edited and pretty interesting from the get-go, imho.

I've watched two episodes. I don't much like either side.

Bunch of fucking lunatic assholes. Don't give them anymore attention. Just let the shit for brains assholes die.

Alternately, track them down and end that bad idea once and for all. An example to others and all that. :godwin:

Embarrassed for myself and the human race that I actually lived through that and reported same as "News" on a small town radio station in Pissant, Fuckwad 00020 back in the day.

Ma Fuckwad Sheila. Just imagine that kind of shit being tried today.

Are you referring to the town folk or the cult? They were both a bunch of lunatic assholes.

He didn't even talk for himself as I recall. Suppose he had some other 'stud' do his fucking for him too?

He believed his shit, those around him corrupted his (admittedly shit for brains) ideas.

Watched the whole thing a while back. I like it because the documentary did a great job of not having a bias, I thought both the cult and the government (all levels) were total cunts. It's a miracle this didn't end up like Waco.
