Trinity Anniversary

Yep. It's today. They tested a version of Fat Man (how ironic) 72 years ago this day at 5 something in the AM. Did we even have DST yet?

This maybe should be in the Politics thread, but, no. Science and Maths it is.

The flash of light you saw in the sky was not a UFO. Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light from Venus.

Gotta plug Dan Carlin's history podcast again. Latest episode: The Destroyer of Worlds.

It's like a 4 hour audio book. Basically this episode covers the advent of the atomic age from the Manhattan Project through the Cuban Missile crisis. New theories of war such as the development of game theory, the showdown with the Russians over West Berlin, and so on. You can hear some actual audio of Curtis LeMay basically advising the president to go ahead and invade Cuba.
