Hydrogen electrobikes

Two communes in Brittany are going to test them, so apparently they exist. The interesting points are:
– rechargeable in minutes;
– 100 km autonomy;
– other characteristics like standard e-bikes.

But of course Le Monde journalists can't be bothered to explain how things work. (http://www.lemonde.fr/smart-cities/article/2017/12/11/a-saint-lo-les-premiers-velos-electriques-a-hydrogene-en-france_5228161_4811534.html)

I looked up the manufacturer's site (http://www.irunonhydrogen.com/) and there's not much about that technology either, save that it's of course totally awesome.

Don't know what to think. :?

Looks legit enough. Of course, you've got to buy hydrogen to keep the thing running, as with all fuel cells, they need to be fed. I wonder how long the fuel cell itself will last. Since this particular scheme uses atmospheric oxygen, there must be some impurities that make their way into the cell, and couldn't/wouldn't that reduce the life of the cell?
Nice things? Hell no!

Does it burst into an enormous fireball when hit by a car? :)

If you rupture the hydrogen storage tank, then yes, that's possible. Enormous should be qualified however.

Brilliant! :figamagee:

Not sure if I goofed with the manufacturer, or if it's the same thingy under different guises, but here's the French (well, Basque) site: https://www.pragma-industries.com/products/light-mobility/

Hydrogen is stored under pressure in hydrides, there is a classical battery as buffer between the fuel cell and the motor, and the recharging station manufactures hydrogen by electrolysis.

And if you want something to break your bones ecologically:

(Added advantage: as it's relatively silent, you probably can sneak up on pedestrians… :mrgreen: )
