Guess along about which social science studies will replicate
Medium

Teaser:
...

My general heuristic is the following:
  • If the study implies that social scientists are modern day wizards, that can easily manipulate peoples choices through priming or similar, it won’t replicate
  • If the study results involves wishful thinking, such as that you can get great advantages from easy, nice sounding actions, it won’t replicate.
  • If none of the above are the case, and especially if the result is in agreement with common sense, it will replicate

Back when I was a tad just starting in my doctoral program ... hang on, gotta pee

I'm back, where was I? Oh yeah ...

Anyway one had to take a battery of tests to stay in the program, 10 or 12 of the buggers. Each one was 1 hr or so and each one covered some discipline in psych. So there was industrial, physiological, clinical, social, stats, etc etc.

I forget the scoring or how many you had to pass or actually, come to think of it, damn little from that time...

But anyway, the one field that I never took a course in, never cracked a text for, had zero knowledge of was ... social psych.

And (you know where this is going, don't you, you brilliant hunk you) the test I got the highest mark in was social.
Sample question: "oppressed people tend to need a chance T/F"

And my score was good as I recall, not like "just passing".

My respect for that discipline went to zero that day.
