Open Letter to Mr David Hogg

Postby xouper » Wed May 16, 2018 11:08 pm

Dear Mr Hogg,

In the news today, this is how school shootings can be stopped:

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-met-dixon-school-shooting-20180516-story.html

And that is not an isolated example. See also:

Yesterday you asked, "Why doesn’t congress have clear backpacks???? "

Source: https://twitter.com/davidhogg111/status/996372880643559425

Answer: Because they have armed security.

Most mass shootings (using the FBI definition) happen in so-called "gun free zones". So how about advocating for the elimination of "gun free zones" instead of advocating for the infringement of the rights of millions of law abiding gun owners.

Which of the following two signs do you think will be more effective in preventing future school shootings?

And yes, that second sign is a real sign:

Sincerely,

It is not that simple.

Quite true.

Please keep in mind however, my missive was addressed not to someone educated or experienced in the complexities and nuances of public policy, but rather to someone who recently described himself as a child (cite) and whose anti-gun advocacy is simplistically childlike.

Someone should write it down, put an address on an envelope with appropriate postage, place it, folded, in said envelope then convey oneself to an official United States Postal Service receptacle and place it within.

Then this Mr. Hogg may receive and benefit from its erudition.

My observation is that both sides are far too reactive and have done nothing to address the complexities of the problem...assuming anyone agrees that there is a problem.

Sorry, no. I was not thinking of anyone here on this forum. I was just running my mouth, because, well . . . that's what this forum is for, no?

I hope you weren't expecting more than that from our professional politicians, or from the media, or even from this forum.

Anyway . . . again, I agree with your observations.

It is worth noting that Mr. Hogg's school was not a "gun-free zone", in the sense that armed protection was on site.

Now, whether that person did their job seems to be a point of contention.
"If fighting is sure to result in victory, then you must fight! Sun Tzu said that, and I'd say he knows a little bit more about fighting than you do, pal, because he invented it, and then he perfected it so that no living man could best him in the ring of honor. Then, he used his fight money to buy two of every animal on earth, and then he herded them onto a boat, and then he beat the crap out of every single one. And from that day forward any time a bunch of animals are together in one place it's called a zoo! (Beat) Unless it's a farm!"

Ever hear of an inmate shooting up the inside of a prison?

Never mind silliness about "gun free" zones.

The public schools need to be more like prisons.

Or do you hate children?

It's an argument that's very easy to win. It's just a matter of who can come up with the most anecdotes.

P.S. Perhaps I could add to that.

Speaking for myself, I confess I am all of the above. I have mostly just been (depending on who you ask) "too reactive", I've done almost nothing to "address the complexities", nor do I agree with everyone's framing of the "problem". So, yeah, your observations are bang on. I agree.

All I can do, especially on a forum like this, is respond to arguments and "facts" that I think are mistaken, wrong, flawed, or irrelevant. And stick up for my core value of individual liberties.

That, and bring popcorn. :LagerLouts:
