And signal to every future tyrant that we are willing to drag our feet when they too get their hands on WMDs? Nuclear proliferation should not be tolerated in the slightest.

Besides, we are Japan's military.

It really isn't. Do they represent a threat to us?

Yes, obviously.

Take some measure that is meaningful. I would deflate every sub they have underway. Then as an extra bonus, sink every other boat out of port.

That might be why nobody voted for me.

Why can't South Korea do that for us?

They can. They chose not to.

South Korea is locked in a MAD-esque stalemate with the North, hence they have a less leverage than the US.

I disagree. North Korea has sunk South Korea ships, kidnapped people and done all kinds of shit. South Korea should be doing just that. Fucking up anything that floats out of port, who would stop them? China and Russia can't because they would be seen as an aggressor. North Korea can't because they are North Korea. Everyone in the region is basically waiting for USA to act and that's bullshit.

I reiterate my above position. We are at war with them to this day. There is a cease fire but they have fired. Let's take it up a notch. Their nukes withstanding, assuming they have them. Sink every sub they have and every military boat they have. Be bold.

If it gets bad it is nothing we can't handle. If it gets nuclear, and I don't think it will, then they are done in an instant. Better Seoul goes than the rest of us, because that is where we are heading.

You're forgetting the nukes. It's not exactly MAD, but NK could still cause a tremendous amount of destruction over the south even if the South wins, which they likely would. Kim has that as leverage over South Korea. He doesn't have that leverage against the US. Yet.

You shoot down the missiles unless you do not want anyone to know that you cannot actually shoot down the missiles or there is some way your shooting down the missile will reveal t3h s3kr1t information that could teach the Lone Fat Boy how to avoid your anti-missile weaponry.

Or slap them with a cruise missile if you don't want to show off your anti-missile technology.

I think there's at least a 50/50 chance we could shoot down a missile. Perhaps better than 50/50. However, there are things to consider. And I'm not saying don't do it, but think about the next escalation after that. First is, if you shoot it down, where does it land. The second is, while I think we can probably shoot them as long as they launch them one at a time, what if they respond by launching multiple missiles the next time. In a real nuclear exchange, I have my doubts about whether the anti-missile missiles would be able to shoot most of them down. I suppose shooting half of them down is better than nothing, but it's far from ideal.

A nation that sends multiple missiles--let alone one--in your airspace commits an act of war.

It's only an act of war if someone is willing to go to war over it.

Is there a good reason why this NY Times columnist is parroting Nork propaganda? He’s aware military service is mandatory, yea?

I don't think he's "parroting" it. He is sounding a note of skepticism.

Let's wait till he leaves teh country and can speak freely.
