Yeah that's why Clinton won

Like I said in another thread. Different puppets, same guy.

That aside, the fact that a millionaire lost to a billionaire does not exactly disprove my point.

The only reason pot is not now legal on the federal level is because high-stake, high-power folk, elected and not, are positioning themselves to control the federal market. Well, that and inertia; it simply is not an issue that anyone votes about.

They all ultimately want the same thing. More wealth, more power, and more control over the likes of you and I. Different ones use different means to get there, that's all.

At the moment it's reality vs speculation. Reality in California is weed is legal. Not only that it has been progressively more and more legal. Anyone can speculate about a reverse but it will not be grounded in reality.

It's grounded in the reality that the DOJ wants to reverse it. And they have the means to do so.

Well Sessions wants to.

Quite the opposite. Without state support DEA can't do shit.

They don't. The DEA has 4,600 agents. That's less than 100 per state. They could all bust pot shops to their heart's content, with overtime, and not make a fucking dent. Plus they have no money to do so. Congress has said no money for pot busts of med weed or legal states. The best they can do is catch it coming over the border.

Federal task force reportedly recommends more marijuana study, no crackdown

The task force Attorney General Jeff Sessions established to crack down on marijuana use has come up with no new policy recommendations for the attorney general, The Associated Press reported Friday.

Marijuana advocates feared that a report released by the Trump administration's Task Force on Crime Reduction and Public Safety would link violent crime to marijuana. But the AP, citing portions of the report it had obtained, said that the document recommends that officials continue weighing whether to change or rescind the Obama administration's largely hands-off approach to enforcement.

Advocates hailed the news on Friday.

Jeff Sessions 'Can't Comment' On Marijuana Crackdown Plans
U.S Attorney General Jeff Sessions is a longtime opponent of marijuana legalization. But in an interview on Thursday, he was guarded about the Trump administration's plans to push back against the growing number of states that are ending cannabis prohibition.
...
"I do not believe there is any argument that because a state legalizes marijuana that the federal law against marijuana is no longer existence," he said. "I do believe that the federal laws clearly are in effect in all 50 states, and we will do our best to enforce the laws as we are required to do so."

Yep, same ole 'drug war dinosaur.'
...
A Gallup poll released on Wednesday found that 64% of Americans support legalizing marijuana. For the first time in the firm's 48 years of polling on cannabis, a majority of Republicans are on board with ending prohibition.

California plans to tax the hell out of recreational pot:

California slapping high taxes on marijuana, causing sticker shock for some

California's legal marijuana marketplace is coming with a kaleidoscope of new taxes and fees that could influence where it's grown, how pot cookies and other munchies are produced and the price tag on just about everything.

Be ready for sticker shock.

On a retail level, it costs about $35 to buy a small bag of good quality medical marijuana in Los Angeles, enough to roll five or six joints.

Units please!! :x I'm guessing that mean an eighth. But apparently recreational marijuana will cost almost double that because of all the taxes.

But in 2018, when recreational sales take hold and additional taxes kick in, the cost of that same purchase in the new market is expected to increase at the retail counter to $50 or $60.

At the high end, that's about a 70% jump.

Governments struggling to keep up with the cost of everything from worker pensions to paving streets are eager for the cascade of new tax money from commercial pot sales that could eventually top $1 billion statewide.

I have no problem with them taxing it, but not at crazy, punitive levels. :freedom:

I don't want to be too critical giving how wrong I was about Colorado. The problem with California is that there is such a large supply of illegal Mexican weed and, although it is of [much?] lesser quality, that pretty much represents the price cap.

Is there? My understand of the situation is that the demand for illegal Mexican weed no longer exists in California.

I don't think anyone realizes the scale of California grow business that is about to be unleashed. The prices will drop quite a bit, especially on the raw stuff. The edibles and other such infused and processed products probably will remain high. Absolutely there will be a black market if taxes keep going up, but so what, there's a black market for cigarettes.
