You need to partake of that newly legalized product more. You're not quite mellow enough.

How anti-marijuana Jeff Sessions became the best thing to happen to pot legalization

Some strange twisted "pretzel Logic?"

...
For years, marijuana reform has moved at a snail’s pace in Washington. Even as more and more states — now 29 — legalized medical marijuana and increasing numbers legalized adult use of marijuana, Congress held back. Occasional efforts to remove marijuana from the schedule of controlled substances have been rejected. And advocates have had to fight every year to make sure that Congress included an amendment to its appropriations bills, to protect states that legalized medical marijuana from federal interference.
...
But in January, Sessions rescinded the Cole memo. Perhaps he thought that the decision would chill further reform or spread fear among the industry.

Instead, his move seems to have galvanized policymakers. That same month, Vermont announced that it had legalized marijuana. Cities like Albuquerque, Savannah, Ga., and Baton Rouge are decriminalizing it. And now, we’re seeing a sea change in Washington, in both parties.

The rest of it follows the predictable "any day now" theme...
Then Skank Of America could start in...

Fusion power is more likely.

It's inherently more difficult that originally thought, but there aren't any powerful interests arrayed against it.

Yeah, there's no competition in the energy sector just an archaic corner of economy.

It's difficult for me to share your cynicism when just 12 years ago it was illegal in California and VERY illegal in Nevada. Today there are dispensaries on the Las Vegas strip and billboards advertising Marijuana delivery in Los Angeles.

And it is hard for me to share your optimism because of the way politics works. In every state where it has been legalized that I know of, it was legalized as a result of a referendum. AKA the people of the state making an end run around their legislators. Had it been left up to legislators (who, as a group, are in the pockets of the powerful interests Abdul mentioned above) it still would be illegal everywhere.

Unfortunately, there is no referendum process at a federal level and politicians at that level have vested interests of their own for continuing the "War on Drugs" as hard as they possibly can (gives you a lot of pretexts for taking away civil liberties, for instance). Thus I confidently predict that every single one of us will go to our graves with it still being illegal at the federal level. The politicians don't want it to be legal (though they are quite willing to pretend otherwise when there is no chance of it happening) and the billionaires that own them don't want it to be legal either (fun fact: when the referendum was coming up for a vote in Nevada, Sheldon Adelson bought an extremely unprofitable but highly circulated Las Vegas newspaper specifically so he could switch their editorial stance on the subject)

Under the current regulatory regime, the existing utilities would benefit.

Corporately speaking it would not mean new players.

Unless it's tabletop Mister FusionTM :notsure:

They are in the pocket of powerful interests, those powerful interests are the people who have elected them.

And yet it's legal in Nevada and you can buy it on the strip. Despite the campaign by casinos and these billionaires.

They give precisely 0.0 shits about the people who elected them. The billionaires and corporations who give them money, on the other hand...

It is only legal to buy it on the strip because an option existed for going around the politicians and their masters. No such option exists at the federal level

I'm confused, do you not believe that USA has a working representative democracy?

No. You were not dead on accurate.

It's pretty hard for me to put myself up on a cross, as you are implying, when I wasn't even talking about myself to begin with.

I am NOW, but only because you decided to make this personal

I believe we like to PRETEND we have a working Representative democracy. We want to think we do. But when that "democracy" actually represents anyone but the very, very rich it's by accident, not design.

We are a plutocracy through and through, not sure there was ever a time when we were anything else.
