Los Angeles man arrested in ‘swatting’ call that preceded fatal police shooting in Kansas

I think the other guy who gave him the address should also be arrested.

Why am I not surprised? The whole gaming community has gotten so toxic that it really was just a matter of time.
It's rather like painting a whole group of people by the action of few, and you don't seem to keen on that usually.
Fair enough, except for the "few" part. But it's not a demographic one is born or indoctrinated into. It is defined by the people it attracts, and the type of people they attract tend to behave a certain way. Or misbehave. Same with clubs or gangs.

You don't hear about country club members swatting each other. Or just about any other group.
I don't hear about country club members beating their wives in elevators but I still don't think all football players are cunts.

Throw the book at him I guess. That's for prosecutors to figure out I suppose, but there must be something. Maybe they need a new law.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swatting
Laws[edit]
United States – It can be prosecuted through federal criminal statutes.
"Conspiracy to retaliate against a witness, victim or informant".[11][12]
"Conspiracy to commit access device fraud and unauthorized access of a protected computer".[11][13]
An accomplice may be found guilty of "conspiring to obstruct justice".[14][15]
In the State of California pranksters bear the "full cost" of the response which can range up to $10,000.[16]
Not sure which one of those is applicable.

I did find one example:
On January 31, 2016, at around 10pm, U.S. Representative Katherine Clark was swatted by an anonymous caller who claimed there was an active shooter in the home. Melrose Police responded to the home, and left after determining the call was a hoax. Rep. Clark had sponsored a bill called the 'Interstate Swatting Hoax Act of 2015', aimed at increasing the penalties for swatting, as well as making swatting a federal crime. After the incident, she "said she had been very sympathetic to people who have been the victims of swatting before Sunday night but now fully understands what it’s like." She further stated that the swatting "will really cause me to double down." [47]
Unfortunately, the Interstate Swatting Hoax Act of 2015 doesn't seem to have become a law yet, so they can't charge him with that.

I'll let the prosecutors figure it out.

Yeah, I agree with this.

Football doesn't make a highly profitable industry out of domestic abuse.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/pos ... ill-a-man/
In tweets and interviews, a man known online as “Swautistic” said he had placed the 911 call — which in his view was a routine hoax gone badly wrong.

“Bomb threats are more fun and cooler than swats in my opinion and I should have just stuck to that,” Swautistic told reporter Brian Krebs on Friday. “But I began making $ doing some swat requests.”

Several hours later, Los Angeles police arrested a 25-year-old named Tyler Barriss in connection with Finch’s death. According to KABC, he had been arrested two years earlier for making hoax bomb threats to their TV station.
Well, fuck him. Period.

Sadly, it won't stop as long as it is profitable. And it's profitable as long as there's demand.

People do this for money now?

Police could crack down on this better if there was a more specific law against it.

And if people are doing it for money, well just have undercover agents posing as butthurt gamers "hire" them and catch them in act.

Article gives examples of how he might be charged. Reckless homicide looks promising.

I don't think the cop who shot him should get off the hook, he shot him for no good reason.

Charged with involuntary manslaughter. 11 years potentially. I hope he serves every day of it.

The guy's lawyer let him give an interview in which he admitted to things that will help to ensure that result.

Not a good idea to get a lawyer whose primary interest is promoting himself instead of the acting in the best interests of the client.

His public defender?
"If fighting is sure to result in victory, then you must fight! Sun Tzu said that, and I'd say he knows a little bit more about fighting than you do, pal, because he invented it, and then he perfected it so that no living man could best him in the ring of honor. Then, he used his fight money to buy two of every animal on earth, and then he herded them onto a boat, and then he beat the crap out of every single one. And from that day forward any time a bunch of animals are together in one place it's called a zoo! (Beat) Unless it's a farm!"
