Too Anti-Trump to Check
National Review

... Every media outlet makes mistakes. It’s easier than ever to run with fragmentary or dubious information in a frenzied news cycle that never stops. But underlying the media blunders was an assumption — not based on any evidence we’ve yet seen — of Trump guilt in the Russia matter. This was news, in other words, too anti-Trump to check. ...

"Fake but accurate" strikes again.

The news cycle is too fast, and a lot of media outlets cut out fact checking anyway.

Has nothing to do with inherent political bias. Once the whiff of a scandal comes up, they dogpile. It happened to both Clintons, just that dogpiling doesn't seem like dogpiling when you suspect the underlying allegations are at least in the general neighborhood of the truth.

I tend to suspect there is something there w/r/t the Trump administration and Russia, but forming an actual opinion seems a bit rash given both the understandable desire for journalists to go down as the next Woodward and Bernstein and the papers to want to be the ones that "break" something. Let silly people hurry to be "right" as soon as possible. I'll wait for things to develop before forming an opinion.

Sir Walter Raleigh said it best IMO " Whosoever, in writing a modern history, shall follow truth too near the heels, it may happily strike out his teeth."

Right, it's just coincidence that 100% of the fake news is anti-Trump.

What planet are you on?
"If fighting is sure to result in victory, then you must fight! Sun Tzu said that, and I'd say he knows a little bit more about fighting than you do, pal, because he invented it, and then he perfected it so that no living man could best him in the ring of honor. Then, he used his fight money to buy two of every animal on earth, and then he herded them onto a boat, and then he beat the crap out of every single one. And from that day forward any time a bunch of animals are together in one place it's called a zoo! (Beat) Unless it's a farm!"

More like most of the news is fake, especially stuff of no obvious political tendency.

The biggest lie told (by implication) by that (formerly Jewish) Mexican newspaper of record that is fit to print is that they know what is going on at all.

Fake implies intent to deceive though. Most people in the business at least mean well.

Really?

I mean, I've read a lot of stories about events I was personally involved in. Roughly 100% of the time I come away thinking that the story didn't match up with my understanding of the event. It is just the nature of the thing. A reporter is neither going to ever be 100% educated about a subject or able to communicate that understanding if they were without the paper being bigger than my house.

If you think that every paper is just flat making things up on a regular basis, that is a bit alarming.

Professional journalist == evil lying scum that intends harm.

100% made up? Of course not.

There is no "epidemic" of fake news, just a situation where the old tricks aren't working any more, as it might be cavalry charges in WWI.

Oh, they do mean well. They filter what they think should and shouldn't be covered or emphasized according to their biases.

(Please note that by this standard, Trump's tweets are meant well)

You're talking to somebody who takes project veritas as gospel. I've found brick piles easier to convince. Actually met one last week for a beer, cool guy but was way too eager to get laid.

Only if you eliminate the distinction between conscious and unconscious bias.

Then again, Trump could possibly be that delusional...

Not being an apologist for Trump here, but he doesn't seem overwhelmingly "delusional" to me.

He's an old guy with enough money that he doesn't need to work.

He's got a job that pays a lot less than he used to make, doing something that he really likes.

We all should have such a retirement. :propeller:
