The Cosby Show

Post by Rob Lister » Mon Jun 05, 2017 2:12 pm

Opening arguments are scheduled for today. Most of the media has him convicted and sentenced but, I think, only reluctantly so. Most of America seems rather ho-hum about it all. I think I'm in the latter camp. Odds are good that he's guilty. Odds are even [at best] he'll be convicted. Odds are pretty damn low he'll do jail time.

I'm giving even odds on conviction.
I'm giving 3:1 odds against jail.

I would take those odds on conviction.

I'd be a bit hesitant to take them on jail time though, even at 3:1. I doubt he is going to be sharing any Jello Pudding Pops with his bunkie any time soon.

Every thing I'm reading says that it comes down to a he said, she said. Of course there are a whole lot of 'shes' in this that will not be testifying for one reason or another. So far as I know, only one other 'she' is in the mix. On the other hand, Cosby took some kind of plea deal about a decade ago and I'm not sure what from that will come in. Both sides are being rather secretive as to their strategy, which makes sense. The Cosby team has some very high-dollar attorneys so it isn't going to be an easy task to convict.

I wonder if we'll have any Mark Fuhrman types in this mix? Any bloody gloves?

ON HOW COSBY'S PILLS AFFECTED HER: "I began to slur my words, and I also told Mr. Cosby that I had trouble seeing him, that I could see two of him, and my mouth was very cottony ... I said, 'I see two of you,' and I'm slurring my words. Mr. Cosby stood up, and I stood up because he said, 'You probably need to relax,' and when I stood up my legs were not strong, and I began to panic a little bit. Mr. Cosby grabbed, helped me by my arm and assisted me to a couch."

ON WHAT SHE SAYS COSBY DID: "I was laying on my left side, and he placed some kind of pillow under my neck, and I don't really remember passing out. I have no recollection until some point later, I was jolted awake, and I felt Mr. Cosby's hand groping my breasts under my shirt, and I also felt his hand inside my vagina moving in and out, and I felt him take my hand and place it on his penis and move it back and forth."

ON NOT BEING ABLE TO FIGHT COSBY OFF: "In my head I was trying to get my hands to move or my legs to move, but I was frozen, and those messages didn't get there and I was very limited. I wasn't able to fight in any way. I wanted it to stop."

ON WHY SHE WAITED A YEAR, CONTACTED LAWYERS BEFORE GOING TO POLICE: "I felt that if I had gone to police, Mr. Cosby would retaliate and try to hurt me, that he would try to hurt me and my family in some way."
http://www.newser.com/story/243911/bill ... sault.html

she also testified that he 'made her take' three blue pills. She has yet to be cross examined but that's going to come up.

Not looking good. The so called (appropriately called, IMO) confessions come in; stipulations from previous civil case wherein he fucking admitted to drugging the so he could rape them.

I think the guilty verdict is a foregone conclusion. I'm changing my odds on the prison time. 1 year actual

DA rested their case. Wonder what the defense has in store. "Yeah I gave her some pills but she swallowed them and that's on her?"

Here is the Cosby problem.
Testifying under oath in 2005, Cosby said he obtained several prescriptions for quaaludes in the 1970s and offered the now-banned sedatives to others, "the same as a person would say, 'Have a drink,'" according to the deposition read to the jury.

"When you got the quaaludes, was it in your mind that you were going to use these quaaludes for young women that you wanted to have sex with?" the comic and "The Cosby Show" star once known as America's Dad was asked.

"Yes," he said.
This prior deposition testimony from a civil trial was allowed to come in. The DA saved it for last. Qualuuds were not available after 1986 so anything he gave Constand wasn't likely that, but probably were not benadryl either, which is what the Cosby team claims.

They have a hard row to hoe. And since Cosby can't testify without the DA offering 60 some rebuttal witnesses, I think he is good and truly fucked.

I'm changing my odds on jail time to even.

No sympathy for what he did, but it is sad.

Other than raping women which he somehow managed to hide from the public for decades, he was kind of an inspiring public figure. Seemed like a good role model, gave money for college scholarships, and so on.
