Lets take a look at the History, shall we?
Bill Cosby sexual assault case: Timeline of key events
2001
December 2001: Andrea Constand begins work as director of Operations for the Temple University women’s basketball team. In that role, she meets renowned alumnus Bill Cosby, who becomes her mentor and friend.

2004
January 2004: Constand visits Cosby’s mansion in Cheltenham Township. There, prosecutors say, Cosby drugs Constand and sexually assaults her while she is unconscious.

2005
January 2005: Constand reports the incident to Cheltenham Township police. Detectives interview Constand and Cosby.

February 2005: Bruce L. Castor Jr., then the Montgomery County district attorney, says there is insufficient evidence to file criminal charges against Cosby.

March 2005: Constand sues Cosby in federal court in Philadelphia. Though they are not named publicly, as many as 13 other women are prepared to testify against the television star, according to Constand’s lawyers.
MY take: Given the "conventional wisdom" prevalent at the time, (think Michael Jackson, Goldman Sacks), Bill was probably advised to settle, rather than endure a long and very public civil "trial" and (given that he was not yet retired), chose to do so.
Okay back to the timeline.
2006
November 2006: Cosby and Constand settle out of court.
Bill settles with Andrea, a sealed deposition accompanied this settlement...time passes.
2014
October 2014: During a performance in Philadelphia, comedian Hannibal Buress assails Cosby as a rapist. Video of his remarks, delivered during a standup routine, go viral and suddenly bring a new spotlight to the decade-old sex-assault allegations.

November 2014: Cosby cancels public appearances. NBC scraps a Cosby show that was under development.

December 2014: Cosby steps down from Temple’s board of trustees.

2015
Winter and spring of 2015: Dozens of women come out publicly with allegations of unwanted sexual contact by Cosby. Nearly all their claims are beyond the statute of limitations, some even decades old. Cosby’s lawyers say he has never assaulted anyone.

July 6, 2015: A federal judge in Philadelphia unseals portions of Cosby’s deposition from the 2005 civil case. In it, Cosby admits to obtaining sedatives to give to women before sex.
Lesson one: Never give up your fifth amendment rights, even if your told you wont be prosecuted by a DA.
July 10, 2015: Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman reopens the criminal probe into Constand’s claim.

October 2015: Cosby becomes a central figure in the race for Montgomery County District Attorney between Kevin R. Steele, Ferman’s first assistant, and Castor, who is seeking his old job. Steele runs a TV ad claiming Castor failed to prosecute Cosby. Castor counters that Steele could still act to arrest Cosby.
ELECTION 2015: Steele defeats Castor in Montco DA race
...
The Cosby case became the dominant issue in the campaign.
Okay back to the other link...
Nov. 4, 2015: Steele wins the election over Castor.

Dec. 30, 2015: Steele announces a charge of felony indecent assault against Cosby, ...

...
a crime that carries a maximum penalty of up to a decade in prison. Cosby, now 78 and walking with a cane, posts 10 percent of his $1 million bail. His lawyers vow “a vigorous defense against this unjustified charge” and predict he’ll be exonerated.
I suppose one can't fault him for "honoring a campaign promise" as it was (perhaps) a good way to get the feminist vote...
Once he took the office, all of a sudden now this case has sufficient evidence to go forward...go figure.
January 2016: A purported verbal “non-prosecution agreement” between Castor and Cosby becomes public. Cosby’s lawyers say the entertainer received a legally binding agreement from Castor not to prosecute; in exchange, Cosby agreed to testify in Constand’s civil suit. The deal was not put in writing.
Lesson two: Never give up your fifth amendment rights, even if your told you wont be prosecuted by a DA.
Feb. 3, 2016: A Montgomery County judge rejects Bill Cosby’s motion to dismiss his sex assault case, ruling that a promise from the county’s former district attorney was not legally binding and didn’t bar prosecutors from ever charging the comedian.

May 24, 2016: Cosby is appears in court in Montgomery County for a preliminary hearing, the first evidentiary hearing in the sexual-assault case. He is ordered to stand trial.

Dec. 5, 2016: Cosby loses a major legal battle when a judge rules that prosecutors can tell jurors about damaging, decade-old testimony in which Cosby acknowledged offering drugs to women he wanted to seduce. The ruling means the once-sealed deposition can become part of evidence prosecutors use at trial.
There is more, help yourselves...hope this was of some interest...

Bill Cosby's lawyer tells jury verdict should not hinge on #MeToo movement
In a scorched-earth defense strategy, Bill Cosby’s attorneys banked on a backlash to the growing #MeToo movement, describing it Tuesday as a mob mentality “primarily based on emotion and anger” and comparing the prosecution of the comedian to lynching, witch hunts and McCarthyism.

But prosecutors countered, calling the 80-year-old Cosby a "con artist," a term defense attorneys have used to describe the comedian's main accuser, Andrea Constand.

In her closing argument in the Norristown, Pennsylvania, courtroom, Assistant Montgomery County District Attorney Kristen Feden, asked the jury to convict Cosby.
...
Defense attorney Kathleen Bliss was the first to address the jury, asking the panel in her closing argument to base their verdict solely on the evidence they heard in court. She launched into a withering indictment of both the #MeToo movement against the abuse and sexual harassment of women, and the numerous female witnesses the prosecution called to testify about how Cosby allegedly drugged and molested them.

“When you join a movement based primarily on emotion and anger, you don’t change a damned thing,” Bliss told jurors in the Pennsylvania courtroom. “Which is why each single case must be examined on its merits. All of the evidence must be weighed."

She said the case boils down to whether the jury believes Constand, who testified that he drugged and sexually assaulted her in 2004 at his suburban Pennsylvania home.

"The bottom line here is that if you don’t believe Andrea Constand, you must acquit Mr. Cosby," Bliss said.

During the retrial, five additional women shared strikingly similar allegations of being drugged and molested by the entertainer despite the statute of limitations having long run out for potential criminal prosecution in those cases.

Bliss justified the tough cross-examination of the witnesses, telling the jurors that "questioning an accuser is not shaming a victim."
...
"The cast of five accusers ... talked about what they now claim -- more than 30 years later -- happened to them. How unfair is that? Digging up stuff from three decades ago?

"You can believe one of them, all of them, or not believe any of them," Bliss continued. "This case is about Andrea Constand."

The defense team’s closing argument was split between Bliss and lead defense attorney Tom Mesereau, who outlined what he called "12 lies" by Andrea Constand, remarking at one point, "You need pliers to pull the truth out of this woman."

If convicted, (and it's still a coin toss) Cosby would remain free on bail until sentencing unless the judge revokes it?

Philadelphia defense lawyer Alan Tauber, who isn't involved in the case, says that's less likely for Cosby because his fame makes him an unlikely flight risk.

Roman Polański could not be reached for comment.

Now its Blow-by-Blow action from the Jury and....

Bill Cosby retrial, Day 13: Jurors begin deliberations, ask about definition of consent

Now is that the 2004 definition, the 2018 (#metoo-inspired) definition, or the axe-grinding feminist definition....

Inquiring Minds Want To Know!
NORRISTOWN, Pa. – Jurors at Bill Cosby’s sexual-assault retrial began deliberating Wednesday morning. Less than two hours later, they notified Judge Steven O'Neill that they had a question.

After court was reconvened with O'Neill, the lawyers and the jury in the room, the judge revealed that the jurors had asked for the legal definition of consent.

But he told the jurors that the consent question could not be answered independently — only within the context of the charges.

“You have the legal definition of the crime (aggravated indecent assault)," he said. "If that definition does not contain the definition of consent, then the jury will decide what consent means to them.”
Okay your honour...Clear as mud!
...
The jury's question might be a sign of a repeat at the retrial of what happened at Cosby's first trial, which ended in a hung jury last summer after that jury repeatedly asked O'Neill questions about definitions and asked to have portions of testimony read back to them. In the end, despite five days of deliberations, that jury was unable to reach a unanimous vote on any count and O'Neill declared a mistrial.
So THAT's what happened!!!

Apparently, America's Dad swore at the prosecutor.

A completely rigorous scientific survey of Law & Order viewers expects guilt on three counts means he effectively will spend the rest of his life in prison.

Lord knows Cosby's lawyers certainly objected enough to have grounds for filing one.
SO, do they sentence him before or after the appeal?

According to Pennsylvania state law, Cosby could face up to 10 years in prison on each of the three second-degree felony counts. But he could also be given probation. The aggravated indecent assault charge previously carried a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison, but mandatory sentences were struck down by the U.S. and Pennsylvania supreme courts in 2013 and 2015 respectively (though lawmakers are trying to bring those back in some manner, Cosby would not be affected by any new law), giving discretion to the judge to decide on a sentence.

The statute of limitations for the incident would have expired in 2016. They charged him in 2015.
"If fighting is sure to result in victory, then you must fight! Sun Tzu said that, and I'd say he knows a little bit more about fighting than you do, pal, because he invented it, and then he perfected it so that no living man could best him in the ring of honor. Then, he used his fight money to buy two of every animal on earth, and then he herded them onto a boat, and then he beat the crap out of every single one. And from that day forward any time a bunch of animals are together in one place it's called a zoo! (Beat) Unless it's a farm!"
