The Smirk is Dead, Long Live the Smirk

Post by Mentat » Sat Aug 05, 2017 12:54 am

Just goes to show, the justice system occasionally works.
The jury of seven women and five men reached their verdict on the fifth day of deliberations after a month-long federal fraud trial. Shkreli, nicknamed “Pharma Bro” for his willfully provocative behaviour, faced up to 20 years behind bars on the charges of securities fraud, conspiracy to commit securities fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
It's "pea-can", man.

Guilty of the one crime that really counts -- Crossing the mob. Not unlike Manuel Noriega. Remember him?

Next up -- Impeaching Trump.

I found the subject line a bit misleading.

"Smirk" was humorous nickname for Dubya.

Huh, I never heard of that. Though Bush always struck my as a jovial fellow - the stress of the job not withstanding - hence his frequent smiling. Shkreli's smirk is the "I'm a dishonest scumbag and there's nothing you can do about it" attitude adopted by tnr, and damn is it so satisfying that he's getting put in his place.

I knew he was on trial but didn't much know why. WaPo has the nut of it.
Prosecutors were focused on Shkreli’s leadership of two hedge funds, MSMB Capital and MSMB Healthcare, and a pharmaceutical company, Retrophin. Shkreli raised millions for MSMB Capital, but not as much as he told investors. When he made a bad bet that doomed the hedge fund, he launched a scheme to cover it up, prosecutors said. He raised more money for another hedge fund, MSMB Heathcare, which he largely used to fund the start up of Retrophin.

When disgruntled investors attempted to claim their profits, Shkreli used money from other investors and Retrophin cash and stock to pay them off, according to prosecutors.

Yea, that will get you in a place.

I hear from other sources that he's bragging on youtube that it won't be a 'shank' prison if he goes to prison at all.

My curiosity satisfied, I now wash my brain of him.

He should have bought a couple of Senators.

It was a convoluted case of the government going after someone because they had pissed off the government and flinging 10 charges hoping a few would stick. Shotgunning as we call it in skeptic circles. Shame.

This is what Martin has been up to lately:

Out of his "pharma bro" heel character that the media basically encouraged him to indulge, making investing videos and explaining the plays the way someone who wasn't a pharma insider could understand. I'll miss these if he goes to prison.

First Harambe and now Martin, THANKS OBAMA!

Corplinx, I think you're forgetting the real reason and his most egregious infraction; he promised to play the full Wu-tang album but never did.

Explaining how the pharma pricing tricks are done didn't help his cause.

The first political prisoner of the Trump era. Trump should pardon him and make him head of the FDA. Do a moonwalk over the river of salty tears, while de-regulating to keep economic growth going steadily up while his opponents stay outraged about the obvious thing.

His schtick is pissing people off for teh lulz. And while it gathers him a rabid fanbase of dipshits who see integrity and dignity as sins; that is not a great recipe for making friends or building a reputation of trustworthiness. It is politically more profitable to turn on him, as we've seen so far. Besides, there's plenty of other fish in the sea to sell out to.

Betting he won't make it to 60. He will have...interesting...times in stir.
