LOOK, THEYRE TRYING TO MAKE IT TOPICAL

Ham fisted attempts at topicality are a grand Star Trek tradition going back to TOS. Remember The Omega Glory? Let That Be Their Last Battlefield? Turnabout Intruder?

A ham fisted attempt at topicality was the first real glimmer at authentic Star Trekkiness the show showed

Best I could do:

"If fighting is sure to result in victory, then you must fight! Sun Tzu said that, and I'd say he knows a little bit more about fighting than you do, pal, because he invented it, and then he perfected it so that no living man could best him in the ring of honor. Then, he used his fight money to buy two of every animal on earth, and then he herded them onto a boat, and then he beat the crap out of every single one. And from that day forward any time a bunch of animals are together in one place it's called a zoo! (Beat) Unless it's a farm!"

Nyarl, why you actin' so strange?

What you wanna do somethin' like that for? You gone too far when you mess with the Man With No Eyes!
He ain't in the box because of the joke played on him. He back-sassed a free man. They got their rules. We ain't got nothin' to do with that. Would probably have happened to him sooner or later anyway, a complainer like him. He gotta learn the rules the same as anybody else.

While we're dissing on the most recent Discovery episode...

What was the ship that brought the Starfleet/Federation bigwigs? I don't think we ever saw it. Where did it go when the Discovery traveled to Starbase 1? Why did they talk about how perilous the trip would be and then in the next scene they simply arrive?

Cut the dialog about the "dangerous journey" that had no payoff, and give us a few goddamn establishing shots!! I am sick of being told what's going on outside the ship without showing it. And maybe some nice engine thrum would be good too. And turn on the friggin lights already!

Did Lorca really spend all the time in the Federation without going native and learning to value non-humans? I mean come the fuck on.

Choosing a man who burned a church full of women and children to command your star ship makes me question your commitment to Sparkle Motion.

Sounds like a treatment for a Star Trek episode.
