CDC funding issues

The CDC is not the only affected agency. USAID also received $300 million from the same dwindling pot of money, which it used to expand its work in the Middle East and Asia. Those programs may also have to shut down in 2019.

These changes would make the world—and the United States—more vulnerable to a pandemic. “We’ll leave the field open to microbes,” says Tom Frieden, a former CDC director who now heads an initiative called Resolve to Save Lives. “The surveillance systems will die, so we won’t know if something happens. The lab networks won’t be built, so if something happens, we won’t know what it is. We can’t be safe if the world isn’t safe. You can’t pull up the drawbridge and expect viruses not to travel.”

Yeah, it's too bad there's no bazillionaires in the Middle East who could fund this since it's in their own back yard. Clearly, it's the responsibility of the USA to do it and if we don't it's because we're racist islamophobes.

Too bad the oligarchs in the Middle East don't care.

Hopefully pandemic diseases will be considerate enough to stop at the borders of nations that do care to invest more. Like they did in the past.

Allowing the funding to lapse would also allow the USA's leadership in this area to lapse. Understanding, of course, that this is the age of "I got mine, Jack."

Oh you mean white people? We can die from Ebola just as good as brown people.

I mean Americans. Why the fuck would you get all SJW and inject race into the issue?

Besides that, as far as I know there's no Ebola in Asia and the ME and also there's lots of white people there too.

Hopefully they will consolidate the rest of their funds and create/unleash Captain Tripps. It would be a mercy

Isn't that who you mean by "Americans?" I mean, based on your usual writing.
Besides that, as far as I know there's no Ebola in Asia and the ME and also there's lots of white people there too.
Ebola is just one example, and the most recognizable. We are talking about communicable disease in general, such as "Bird Flu," etc.

We ignore it and leave it to lesser nations at our peril. Even the Confederacy could be affected.

I suppose it doesn't really matter, what with everybody gearing up for major warfare.

Given your frequent disparagement of black folks, it seems a reasonable conclusion.

However, in re the CDC and disease, I suppose we can always rely on the churches and all the joy of Christendom to see us through.

The whole point about public health is that you can't just do it for the rich. If the rich are to get any of the benefit, it has to be for everybody including (or especially) the "undeserving".

But in fact I do not think that is the dynamic of what is going on here, regardless of after-the-fact apologetics.

utterly uncalled for, imo.

that aside, what is the stated justification for this? to turn that around, why are we not giving them an extra 300m if their mission is so important. Somebody has to decide the best bang for the buck. So i'm neither condoning nor condemning it since I don't know enough about it.

Eh, whatever. The guy does bitch about certain areas of Chicago in terms of race. I didn't invent it; he posts that way. Can't help it if he doesn't like being treated the way he treats others.

As for the CDC, we're not talking about global warming. I'm sure the funding will lapse and that will be that.

That's bullshit and you ought to know better. I've never criticized any area in terms of race. I've criticized a toxic culture that celebrates gangs and violence and leaders who refuse to recognize it and indeed even profit from it, I've never criticized a race. It's attitudes such as yours that guarantees things will never change, by stifling conversation with baseless accusations of racism which instantly kills any critical thinking about the issue and thus any meaningful policies to make it better. But hey, let's pretend there's that all the problems on the south and west sides of Chicago are caused by guns and Trump, and then things will magically get better somehow.
