Sweeping budget deal would add more than $500 billion in federal spending, end months of partisan wrangling

Trillion-dollar deficits may be the new normal. Happened under Obama, but there was a Keynesian rationale for that. We were in a recession and had to prime the pump to get the economy growing again. Now the economy is in great shape already, unemployment is low, you don't really need a stimulus. Keynes would say now is the part of the economic cycle for a little belt tightening or at least not time to go on a spending spree. You know, "keep the powder dry" as they say. Save something for a rainy day.

Maybe it's OK though. Just because the word trillion is getting thrown around a lot more these days, a trillion dollars ain't what it used to be. Trump says he wants 4% growth, and most economists think that's a pipe dream, but if you want higher growth maybe more spending and lower taxes is how you get there. I think you might get it for a quarter or two, but probably not for multiple years of 4% or higher growth.

House Speaker Ryan: House likely to pass U.S. budget deal (Reuters)

Not a shocker.

Side note:
IMO Pelosi's "filibuster" was not really intended to prevent the budget being passed.
