Which Chicago gun law if enforced would fix the issue of hoodrats buying guns on the grey market?

The one where they release you if you're caught with a grey market gun.

1. Possession of firearms without a FOID card.
2. Selling a firearm to prohibited person.
3. Selling a firearm without the mandated waiting periods.
4. Possession of a firearm by a felon.
5. Illegal transfer of firearms across state lines.
6. Straw purchase of firearms.
7. Seller failure to keep record of firearm sale for 10 years.
8. Destroying/altering the serial number on a firearm.
9. Possessing a firearm with a destroyed/altered serial number.

That's off the top of my head, and doesn't even include the criminal use of firearms.

Dont forget that there are federal and state and local laws. As I have tiresomely pointed out, if the book were thrown at these guys they could look at 30 years or more.

I assumed he was talking about private sales.

Again, in Illinois there is no such thing as the "gun show loophole", the buyer must have a valid FOID card and the seller must ensure it is valid. That can be done for free on the Illinois State Police web site, and there's a tool there to make a record of the FOID check. I actually don't mind this, since there is no information about the gun recorded or even if a transfer was made. After all, I certainly don't want to ever sell a gun to a criminal. And while I'm against having to pay for a FOID card in principle the reality is it costs $10 (the cost hasn't increased since it was implemented in the 1960s) and is valid for 10 years before it has to be renewed, so it's $1/year. Which brings me back to my point that even after they have all these "common sense" measures in place they always come back for more.

Meanwhile, guess what? All the people bleating about how this was only made possible because of the high-capacity magazines in Cruz's AR-15 were wrong. Cruz used only 10-round magazines in his rampage:
Cruz went in with only 10-round magazines because larger clips would not fit in his duffel bag, Book said.

So he used the 10-round magazines all the gun control bills want to limit capacity to.

And his gun was failing and jammed because he bought a cheapo model.

Maybe there would have been even more dead if he had used a larger magazine and/or a better model of gun.

Mags can be swapped out in 2 seconds. Even at Sandy Hook Lanza didn't empty his mags, he swapped them out when they still had rounds in them.

Yes it could have been worse but it could have been worse even if he had used a shotgun or even a Old West-style lever action. Both of those can be continuously topped off. They really need to focus on the shooters and not the choice of weapon. Just because the AR-15 is popular doesn't mean substitutes won;t work just as well, or even better as in the case of the Vegas shooter who was engaging targets beyond optimal range for that caliber thus the high death to injury ratio.

I suppose it's a good thing that most mass shooters tend nmot to be very competent with their weapons, the Virginia Tech shooter showed what one can do with just handguns when they know how to use them.

Point is nothing short of a complete ban will end mass shootings, and that assume the 400 million or so huns disappear and nobody makes or imports new ones. And making them is getting easier and easier with cheap computerized CNC milling machines and 3D printers. The gun can't be uninvented.

AP and a number of organizations report that video shows the deputy never entered the building.

While we're on the subject of 'not stupid', what does it say about a cop that has been assigned permanent duty patrolling a high school. Is that above or below meter maid?

Sounds like a pretty cushy gig. $75,000/year to hang around a high school and hassle teenagers. Then, if something serious happens, say "Fuck that noise!" and call the real police to handle it. Why risk that sweet, sweet government pension?

BREAKING: Deputy and counselors recommended institutionalizing Nikolas Cruz long before deadly massacre at Florida school.
