Marketwatch
Facebook Inc. shares are on pace to post their largest percentage decline in four years, as the company comes under fire from regulators for allowing a third-party group to access user information without those people’s permission.

So when does everyone switch over to Google Plus?

Any minute now, right?

Guys?
"If fighting is sure to result in victory, then you must fight! Sun Tzu said that, and I'd say he knows a little bit more about fighting than you do, pal, because he invented it, and then he perfected it so that no living man could best him in the ring of honor. Then, he used his fight money to buy two of every animal on earth, and then he herded them onto a boat, and then he beat the crap out of every single one. And from that day forward any time a bunch of animals are together in one place it's called a zoo! (Beat) Unless it's a farm!"

I don't do social media.

Only anti-social media like this place.

Same here. Fuck Gutter Media. I have no wish to swim in the sewer with the Great Unwashed.

Except for Listy. He's not nice enough to make an exception.

Same here. Way too much trouble.

Me (4) sisters in law do not like it if I ignore their late brother's birthday. I shall make an exception since we all
miss him so much.

3/23/1954.

Rest in peace bro.

It makes us feel good anyway.

Oh yeah, his actual name was Reed Richards which makes certain movies kinda awkward to watch.

Zuck (the Cuck) apologizes for Cambridge Analytica scandal with full-page print ad
Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg has taken out a full page ad in the Washington Post, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal and six UK papers today to apologize Cambridge Analytica scandal, according to CNN's Brian Stelter.

The ad starts in bold letters, saying:

"We have a responsibility to protect your information. If we can't, we don't deserve it."
Okay, so a internet tech giant, decides to apologize in print media?
Seriously?

The people he is trying to impress are not on social media -- or won't admit it.

His great wealth allows him to ignore the (very small) consequences of his actions at this point in the game.

In short: Zuck the Cuck doesn't give a shit about any of it.

So he's lost 7%. Big deal to the richest cuck on the planet. :De_Bunk:

I don't think that's entirely a good description. The objection comes from taking more than was shared voluntarily.

FB data policy makes for an interesting, and, to me, chilling read: https://www.facebook.com/about/privacy/. You'll never see me there, they clearly say they will grab anything they can.

You also agree to give them all uploaded work, for free: https://www.facebook.com/terms.php?_fb_noscript=1 (point 2).

More generally – and that's why I posted this pic – all this is part of a blurring between public and private. It's in the interests of companies who want to sell you their stuff, and of States having the means to cross-reference your tracks, actions and opinions.
A blurring which has already gone quite far, judging from what I sometimes hear when people are on their phones – "intimate" being a dead word.

And then they get/got hacked.

It was all voluntarily shared. When you "like" something on Facebook, you are voluntarily sharing information. When they agreed to Facebook's terms of service, they agreed to this whether they realized it or not.

From a comment thread over by The Register
https://forums.theregister.co.uk/forum/ ... p_privacy/
  • But if they've slurped data on INCOMING texts and calls and used that to build up data graphs on the phone numbers who made the calls and texts (who may well have not installed FB's app and therefore not given permission) then their goose is truly cooked according to some European countries' privacy laws.
I wonder if this kind of slurping doesn't also run afoul of California wiretapping law, which requires consent from all parties involved. IIRC, a 2015 ruling affirmed that collecting metadata without all-party consent can also count as a breach of wiretapping laws.
