Cultural Appropriation

Wherein we steal, mock, deride, pillage and otherwise minimize or extol other cultures.

Every time I put comino and chile into the sauce, especially when I call it "comino" and spell it "chile".

Every time I say "sauce" when I specifically mean tomato sauce.

And when I add beans and put the whole mess on some elbow macaroni, I am a veritable war criminal of cultural appropriation.

Don't forget the shredded Cheddar cheese so I can appropriate the Limeys while I'm at it.

I'll see if I can't hunt up a sample later, but who else here digs Dave Brubeck's Jazz Impressions of Japan?

Especially the Chinese (yes!) gong in the first track?

Not bad for a white guy doing black people music :coolspecs:

I was talking <Insert thread title here>, not material stuff. E. g. the ur-French "ratatouille", ur-Italian "polenta" (they call corn "granoturco" ), &c.

Thread of shit. Except for the Brubeck.

Have a great appropriated day. :)

I like the shakuhachi. Although saying so in Japan will put you on the receiving end of a lot of blowjob jokes. Or maybe I just hang out with the wrong crowd.

Indeed. "Playing the shakuhachi" is a euphemism for performing fellatio.
