DUBLIN (Reuters) - Apple ditched plans to build an 850 million euro ($1 billion) data center in Ireland because of delays in the approval process that have stalled the project for more than three years, the iPhone maker said on Thursday.
The article does not elaborate on what precipitated the appeals. I suspect 1) environmentalists or 2) some form of economic socialists. Maybe some other here will discover a more true 3).
So what did the appealing antagonists win?
“While disappointing, this setback will not dampen our enthusiasm for future projects in Ireland as our business continues to grow,” the company said, citing plans to expand its European headquarters in County Cork where it employs over 6,000 people.
Which I interpret as
“Oh you fucking drunken micks. You are so fucking fucked for fucking with us. We are never again going to create another fucking dollar for you drunk fucking fuck-fucks. And furthermore we are going to very slowly close every business in County Cork where it employs over 6,000 people.
To be fair, a data center creates very few jobs. But neither do they cause any issue other than a small plot of land. The upside is fairly good tax revenue for the locale. Iceland is looking good for them.
“The Government did everything it could to support this investment... These delays have, if nothing else, underlined our need to make the State’s planning and legal processes more efficient.”
Dudes, ya think? If they had even published a muse that they were considering my town of Virginia Beach, it would have been all like
Data Center? Here? Oh, well, we happen to have about 30 acres adjacent to a 20 acre cooling pond that just happens to be less than a mile from the newly completed state of the art fiber optic transatlantic data cable.
We took the liberty to level and raise that land making it ready for construction ... yesterday. And as it happens we are just now completing an off-ramp from I264 and a four lane access to that lot.
And don't you worry your little heads about taxes; those are all taken care of for the next decade. We would only ask, beg really, that you allow us do all the paving, landscaping and grounds maintenance for the next ... say twenty years or so?
Thirty. Make it thirty.
