g7 Summet: Potential for a fistfight?

Postby ed » Fri Jun 08, 2018 1:44 pm

One can only hope.
WASHINGTON — President Trump will skip most of the second day of a summit meeting with allies this weekend, the White House said late Thursday, as he engaged in a contentious war of words over trade on the eve of a gathering that will underscore his isolation from the leaders of the world’s largest economies.

Trump's got 6 inches and 70 pounds on Macron. But he's 30 years younger.

2:1 Trump.

I thought "allies" don't impose tariffs on the other and bring up false securiry concerns combined with dwelling on a 200 year old war and the like? I think any positive policy is almost accidental coming out of the Trump administration. He thinks you negotiate the same way between states as you do in back room New York realestate deals.

It is the same. If not, why not?

There's a bit of subtle and not-so-subtle hypocrisy with these meetings and press releases. That diplomats and world leaders use of flowery language in their rebuke and voter pandering is no different than what Trump posts on twitter.

German car manufactures are already indicating they will not oppose the lowering of tariffs on Freedom-Made cars to match the much lower tariffs Freedom has on Kraut-Made.

Analysis: It's all "art of the deal", but really it always was.

The difference is that this time the President of the United States is officially considered denunciation fodder by the "allies", and furthermore (though for reasons not specifically related to the summit) an acceptable target for professional viewers-with-alarm.

So no fistfights, even metaphorical ones.

Ditto!

But the gents in three piece suits, coat and hat in the ring, with patent leather shoes (and boxing gloves, we are not barbarians). The ladies of course in high heels. I'm sure that would draw the masses closer to politics!
