My take: As expected, perhaps a more conservative pick than Kennedy--but he seems like he's qualified and believes in precedent. Little different than I would expect as a pick from any generic Republican president during their term. A part of me wants the Democrats to push back just to prove that turnabout is fair play, but a) they really can't, and b) despite the emotional satisfaction that would give me, I would prefer it not to become business as usual.

A setback for "liberals" in the general sense, but hardly a disastrous choice for the integrity of the court system.

Then, he used his fight money to buy two of every animal on earth, and then he herded them onto a boat, and then he beat the crap out of every single one. And from that day forward any time a bunch of animals are together in one place it's called a zoo! (Beat) Unless it's a farm!"

You've made several claims but provided evidence for none of them

True enough--is there a comment that strikes you as questionable? Happy to look closer, this was just a quick impression.

And the peanut gallery has started chiming in....

Image
...
Kavanaugh has not expressed outright opposition to Roe v. Wade — but he is sure to face questions from Democrats over how he might rule on abortion rights if confirmed.

He did rule in a case involving an undocumented immigrant teen in detention who sought an an abortion. The DC Circuit last October ruled the teen was entitled to seek an abortion, and Kavanaugh dissented.

No games. Unless something really weird happens he goes through pretty quickly because it isn't worth it for red state dems to give a shit. Which federalist society bot is this one anyway?

I find that when it comes to law terms like "liberal" and "conservative" don't mean what people seem to think they mean.

Yeah.

I suppose, if it was Her Turn, there would be some knee-jerk denouncing her picks.

Of course, they would have jobs and be unable to demonstrate.

Continues the streak of all recent SC justices going to either Harvard or Yale.

Wish once in a while they'd go crazy and pick someone who attended Cornell.

Protesters descend upon Trump Tower, Supreme Court in wake of Kavanaugh nomination
Protesters decrying President Trump’s Supreme Court nomination blocked traffic outside of Trump Tower Monday night, leading to the arrest of seven people, law enforcement sources said.

Among those picked up was City Councilman Jumaane Williams (D-Brooklyn), who is running for lieutenant governor.
...
Meanwhile, US Sens. M Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Bernie Sanders (I-Vt) led a protests against Kavanaugh’s nomination on the steps of the Supreme Court in Washington.

“Are you ready for a fight? Are you ready to defend Roe vs. Wade?” Sanders said.

I am willing to wager (one dollar) it would not have mattered who was picked because "its Drump!"

From Wikipedia:
Kavanaugh has stated that he considers Roe v. Wade binding under the principle of stare decisis and would seek to uphold it, but has also ruled in favor of some restrictions for abortion.

I believe that (stare decisis) was what RCC Act II was concerned with a few posts back...

Las I checked Justice Kennedy was no LIBBERUL.
Making it a liberal/conservative issue distorts things a bit.

The issue with taking federalist society bots of the assembly line is the issue as to respect for Stare Decisis. The willingness to at least work within the present framework of the body of case law.
...
Sure, a court could decide Roe was "plainly wrong" or whatever, but that seems to be at best a stretch.
It would seem that a rational liberal, should have little problem with Kavanaugh on that score.

But that is not taking Trump Derangement Syndrome into account.

That is why.

Which illustrates why I think specific legislation would be better that just relying on the penumbras of the constitution.

After all, they do it with (other) civil rights legislation all the time.

Kavanaugh.

Clerked for Kennedy and supposedly has Kennedy's endorsement (showing that like Scalia/Kagan, the judiciary isn't as deranged as the rest of Washington).

NYT op-ed today from a very non-right-wing person pointing out that Kavanaugh is brilliant and has shown that he changes his mind reasonably.

Turn on the TV or Internet though and "OMG, MUH ABORTION!"

How is Kavanaugh evil, other than about abortion?

Not to minimize the abortion issue, but the court has been real bad lately on eminent domain abuse, something Trump has benefited from as a private businessman in real estate.

Also I'd like to know more about his 4th amendment positions.
