Meanwhile, he passes the first hurdle, and Collins, who voted "yes" for cloture, will announce her final decision in debate at 3 P.M. ETT ["Eastern Trump Time"--Ed.].

However, if she votes "no" and everyone else stays the same, the vote is 50-50 and Pence has the tie-breaker. However, moreover, the 51-49 included Joe Manchin. If he votes "no" then Welcome to Hell, Blofeld!

? A real tie? What happens then?

Vote was 51 to 49 for cloture. Yea or nae Saturday (stock up on popcorn now before it runs out!)

Meanwhile: U.S. Kavanaugh does not belong on Supreme Court, says retired justice Stevens
Reuters 18 hours ago -
Retired U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens said on Thursday that U.S. President Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh does not belong on the high court, the Palm Beach Post reported. Speaking to an audience of retirees in Boca Raton, Florida, Stevens, 98, said Kavanaugh’s performance during a recent Senate confirmation hearing suggested he lacks the temperament for the job. Stevens, a lifelong Republican, praised Kavanaugh and one of his rulings on a political contribution case in the 2014 book “Six Amendments: How and Why We Should Change the Constitution.” "At that time, I thought (Kavanaugh) had the qualifications for the Supreme Court should he be selected,” Stevens said at the event hosted by a Palm Beach Post reporter. “I’ve changed my views for reasons that have no relationship to his intellectual ability ... I feel his performance in the hearings ultimately changed my mind.
Well, that certainly is the current talking point on this...

Interesting article from the other side of the pond....
Leland Keyser told the FBI she felt pressured by friends of Christine Ford to revise her statement to say she didn’t remember the party where Kavanaugh allegedly assaulted Ford -not that it had never happened
Christine Ford's high school friend, Leland Keyser, told the FBI that she felt she had been pressured to revise her initial statement that she knew nothing about an alleged sexual assault by Brett Kavanaugh.

Keyser, who later updated her statement to say that she believed but couldn’t corroborate Ford’s account, told investigators that Monica McLean, a retired FBI agent and a friend of Ford’s, had urged her to clarify her statement, according to the Wall Street Journal,
Monica McLean, sound framiliar?
She should. According to Dr. Ford's ex boyfriend, she was the person Christine was helping to prep for her polygraph test, so she could join the FBI. See below.

Christine Blasey Ford ex-boyfriend says she helped friend prep for potential polygraph
...
The former boyfriend, whose name was redacted in the declaration, also said Ford neither mentioned Kavanaugh nor mentioned she was a victim of sexual misconduct during the time they were dating from about 1992 to 1998. He said he saw Ford going to great lengths to help a woman he believed was her "life-long best friend" prepare for a potential polygraph test. He added that the woman, Monica McLean, had been interviewing for jobs with the FBI and U.S. Attorney's office.
Yes, Monica published a sworn statement denying that allegation, yadda, yadda, yadda.

Does this begin to look a bit stinky stinker yet?

Meanwhile back at the Daily Fail Article:
...
McLean’s lawyer, David Laufman, said in a statement: “Any notion or claim that Ms. McLean pressured Leland Keyser to alter Ms. Keyser’s account of what she recalled concerning the alleged incident between Dr. Ford and Brett Kavanaugh is absolutely false.”

According to Wall Street Journal sources, mutual friends of Ford and Keyser had contacted Keyser 'to warn her that her statement was being used by Republicans to rebut the allegation against Judge Kavanaugh.

'The friends told Ms. Keyser that if she had intended to say she didn’t remember the party—not that it had never happened—that she should clarify her statement, the person said, adding that the friends hadn’t “pressured” Ms. Keyser.'
Na, no pressure...but if those are "friends"...

Sargon of Akad weighs in...again...
Kavanaugh Did Nothing Wrong

Also, from the NYT: For Once, I’m Grateful for Trump
For the first time since Donald Trump entered the political fray, I find myself grateful that he’s in it. I’m reluctant to admit it and astonished to say it, especially since the president mocked Christine Blasey Ford in his ugly and gratuitous way at a rally on Tuesday.
...
A few moments have crystallized my view over the past few days.

The first moment was a remark by a friend. “I’d rather be accused of murder,” he said, “than of sexual assault.” I feel the same way. ...
...
We will learn soon enough what, if anything, the F.B.I. has gleaned from its investigation of Kavanaugh. If the Bureau finds persuasive evidence of Blasey’s charge, the judge will have to step down and answer for it. Until then, I’ll admit to feeling grateful that, in Trump, at least one big bully was willing to stand up to others.
Interesting in retrospect...

Sen. Collins: "I Do Not Believe That Brett Kavanaugh Was" Christine Blasey Ford's Assailant
Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) explains to CNN's Dana Bash why she voted to confirm Brett Kavanaugh.
...
SEN. SUSAN COLLINS (R-MAINE): Let me say this. First of all, I found Dr. Ford's testimony to be heart-wrenching, painful, compelling, and I believe that she believes what she testified to. I don't think she was coming forth with a political motive. Although I do not think that she was treated well by those who breached her confidence. But we also had a case where judge Kavanaugh came forward and said I'm 100% certain that this did not happen. So here you have two people, who are each 100% certain of what they're saying, under pain of perjury, so then I had to look at the other evidence, and was there corroborating evidence, and that's why I pushed hard for the FBI to do a supplemental background investigation.

BASH: So do you still think it is possible that he did it? You just don't have the proof to back that up?

COLLINS: I do not believe that Brett Kavanaugh was her assailant.

BASH: So --

COLLINS: I do believe she was assaulted. I don’t know by whom. And I’m not certain when.
That's okay Suzie, Dr. Ford is not certain when either...

Meanwhile on the THOT other side of the isle...
Sen. Hirono Slams Susan Collins For ‘Insulting’ Comments About Christine Blasey Ford
Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) said Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) insulted Christine Blasey Ford by suggesting the psychology professor is confused about her assault.

“She says that Dr. Ford thinks that she was assaulted, which is even more insulting than saying that she gave a very credible account,” Hirono told CNN on Sunday of her GOP colleague, who helped pave the way for Kavanaugh’s confirmation by a 50-48 Senate vote on Saturday.

“To say that she thinks that Dr. Ford thinks that she was assaulted, what is that? Is she mistaken?” Hirono said, adding that “anybody watching” Ford’s testimony would conclude she was being truthful about her story.
Isn't this the "men should shut-up and take it listen" person?

The GOP finally learned from Trump.

The media is against you. No matter what you do. So grow some balls. Get booed. It's fine. There are more voters who want courage versus rude or violent Democrats booing you.

Poor Paul Ryan must be looking back in retrospect and realizing he was playing like a scrub the whole time.

For the record, I really don't want the religious right's party having this much power. If it takes further defeats for the media to realize their Orwellian connection to the Democrat party _hurts_ Democrats to put distance between them, so be it.

The hicks age buying the narrative anymore.

Coda to the story:

Kavanaugh Accuser Who Had 'Nothing To Gain' Raises Nearly $1 Million, Fields Book Offers

Now, I wouldn't say that this was her plan all along. I doubt it occurred to her at the outset that there would be ways to "monetize" this accusation. But . . . people are going to notice. (By the way, the article I linked to is a right wing source that seems to want to use this to discredit her.)
"Ford stands to gain some $1 million and counting from national crowdfunding campaigns launched by friends and other supporters, while she is said to be fielding book offers," Real Clear Investigations wrote on Monday.

The potential seven-figure windfall, which she says she intends to cash in on – while still asking donors for more money – has some questioning her motivation for accusing the conservative judge after 35 years of silence, and whether it goes beyond personal or even political justice. Others worry the largesse sets a dangerous precedent: Crowdfunding, which unlike political donations is unregulated, could be routinely used in the future as a bounty for providing political dirt on opponents.

Two GoFundMe accounts have raised more than $842,000 for Ford, and the money is still coming in weeks after she testified and left the spotlight. The total does not include a third account collecting $120,000 for an academic endowment in her name.

"The costs for security, housing, transportation and other related expenses are much higher than we anticipated and they do not show signs of letting up,” Ford said in a recent statement posted on the GoFundMe page of the “Help Christine Blasey Ford” campaign, which is still bringing in donations. "Funds received via this account will be used to help us pay for these mounting expenses.”
GoFundMe spokeswoman Katherine Cichy told RealClearInvestigations (RCI) that Ford and her husband "can withdraw as much as they want whenever they want for any purpose. Payments would be electronically deposited into the Fords' bank account within two to five business days of initiating withdrawals."

But Ford didn't have many expenses. All of her legal fees and a polygraph examination were paid for by Democratic attorneys assigned to her by the Democratic members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, RCI wrote. And "panel Democrats were allotted half of a $1 million committee fund for transportation, security, investigations and other expenses associated with the tumultuous confirmation process. The Senate Sergeant at Arms and Capitol Police also provided 'heightened security' for Ford."

Real Clear Investigations reported:

"Her lawyers said they were representing her on a pro-bono basis. Why does she need all of this money?” said an attorney familiar with the committee's investigation into her allegations, adding that the funds were originally set up to help pay her legal bills.
Well the money is all coming from willing donors, and maybe she does have some expenses, but a million dollars' worth? That's not even considering how much she stands to make from a "book deal". :notsure:

A review of her history demonstrates she has relied on secondary gain. The "recovered memories" helped her find an excuse for her failing marriage.

The syndrome continues.

She is much like the Japanese Original Alien Abductees: their myth developed over time and incorporated new information when supported by secondary gain.

I will not be surprised if in a few years she will "remember" "exactly what" Kavanaugh did.

2. Public infamy fame

Now that she's got money, it's worth while to sue her for slander.

Then prosecute for perjury and confiscate the rest of her ill gotten gains if she's convicted.
