How Money Walks

Post by ed » Mon Aug 06, 2018 3:11 pm

You know, sincere expressions about how we have to take care of the downtrodden are swell. And to hear the reporting on the LSM one might think that the folks in places like Cali and Mass and other democrat run states are all down with this open handed philosophy.

However, there is more to the story.

That reminds me of a phone conversation I had (mumblety years ago) with a job shop recruiter from California who was trying to convince me to take a contract in California. When the conversation got around to money, she quoted me an hourly rate that was insulting, especially for California, and when I declined to take a cut in pay, especially to move to the Democratic Peoples Republic of Kalifornia, she got all huffy and said, "Yeah, well, there are plenty of people here who will take that hourly rate." And so I asked politely, "then why are you talking to me?" And I hung up. I like Florida better.

BWAHAHAHA... excellent story xoup!

Been in that situation a time or two myself. No question that a person needs work, but work does not equate with bending over and taking a tentacle up the ass. :)

Not really proven that these people are in all cases moving to get away from high taxes as such.

It might be something else that happens to correlate with high taxes.

In the case of Illinois, I was thinking of high crime, but diversity might correlate too.

FWIW, Albuquerque is quite diverse but low crime. Just one data point of course.

These things tend to covary. Taxes, crime, diversity, democrats etc etc.

If I were more interested and had more time I'd factor analyze it and I bet you would find strong relationships between loss of capitol and the growth of the "progressive" factor, for want of a better label. Theres probably also a crital mass effect. I think you see that in Cali.

Deceptive because California is swimming in money. It may lose 10's of billions to migrations but it gains 100's of billions from business.

First, most of my family has moved out of California for neighboring green states. I like the weather in southern California, but the cost of living, traffic, etc., really sucks. There's talk of repealing Prop. 13 (a limit on property tax). If they do, I expect the rest of my relatives will leave as well.

Second, the story above reminds me when I was working as a public defender. One of my friends gave my name to a legal recruiter without telling me. Long story short, the woman called me out of the blue and then proceeded to give me shit for not having any corporate experience. It was a strange conversation, but I remember finally telling her "Jesus Christ, Lady. You called me."
