The part that should worry people is that Trump called this treason, as if government employees not showing him personal loyalty by criticizing him is treason. He's obviously an unhinged autocrat.
That's the least worrying bit.

If the limit of "unhinged autocrats" bad behavior was exclaiming "treason!" on twitter, then unhinged autocrats would have a far more benign reputation than they actually do.
A- trolling. Pretty good.

Idiots and a weird system combined to elect a president so incompetent and unstable that this op-ed is at all plausibly accurate?

...

Which is better?

A "weird system" with a constitutionally elected president you don't like?

Or a shadowy unelected cabal?

Because that's the choice we've been handed.
Which is better? A false dichotomy, or eating an old taco?

Despite my various speculations, my hypothesis remains "made up shit by NYT staffer" pending further evidences.

But it's interesting to see the Dems all line up on the side of "unelected cabal" (if they can't retcon the election).

It might even be a "fake it till you make" it ploy by the NYT whereby they call the cabal into existence by demonstrating how much support it would have.
This "cabal" is just an office that knows its boss is an incompetent impulsive moron and they are trying to keep things afloat by babysitting the fool rather than let the ship go down and find new jobs. This happens everyday in the real world.

The problem is that this isn't a fucking biscuit company, and the people who are doing this need to come forward and accept the consequences rather than convince themselves that they are serving the greater good by continuing this farce for the sake of further enacting mainstream GOP policies.

It is interesting to drop in now and then to see how more detached from reality this forum gets as it becomes clearer and clearer that Trump is a criminal and dangerous lunatic. It's an illustration of the pitfalls of habitual contrarianism played out over time.

I agree that is a very plausible scenario. The only utterly implausible detail is that one of them wrote an anonymous op-ed in the NYT.

Or is it like the last scene in Three Days of the Condor when Robert Redford goes to the NYT? Or Art Carney in Firestarter?

Not implausible at all. This guy is trying to set himself up as a folk hero. Maybe he's trying to get a book deal or maybe he's trying to hedge his bets so if and when this explodes he can mitigate the moral taint of being a collaborator in this administration. He's obviously a craven opportunist, but so is anyone willing to serve in that administration at this point.

There are whistleblowers of this sort all the time in private industry. Just rarely is there a level of interest that warrants a NYT op-ed spot.

Can you expound on the "dangerous lunatic" part? I can see "corrupt", "obnoxious", "deplorable", etc. Do you have anything specific in mind, or is that just a way of saying you don't like the cut of his jib?

I submit that 100% of the data that contributes to a characterization of Trump as a criminal/racist/moron is derived from news stories in the NYT/CNN/MSNBC.

Anyone see a problem with that?

Sounds like you are so detached from reality that no one is even going to bother providing evidence to contradict you.

Ummmm ... I am not drawing any conclusion or expressing any opinion one way or another about Trump.

It seems, though, that if one is not on board with a rock solid belief system that makes him all of those things one is flawed in some way. It is rather like the Inquisition where the vigor with which one asserted Christ's divinity was taken as a sign of devoutness. What you wrote does a a touch of the religious about it.

Is that what you are saying?

It's very akin to cult and religion.

There's the main flaw in their argument. There is no objective "greater good".

Whose opinions are more important, the voters or the unelected employees of the government?

Indeed. Can you imagine the outrage if trump had said that?

However, there is no evidence [that has been made public], that Trump has colluded to even that extent.

It is a mass hysteria that trumps BDS and ODS.

More on that here (the only source I could find at this moment):
https://conservativedailypost.com/was-t ... oax-op-ed/

So, 1) did a USC student plagiarize the NYT oped or 2) was it actually written by that student and the NYT was duped?

If it was #1, then how stupid do you have to be to claim to have written something that every professor will see in the nightly news?

I'm guessing that one way or another it's an indirection, and the USC angle is false.
