Photos of the migrant caravan.
I kind of like this one....
I kind of liked the one of the crying little boy whose mother left him behind in Honduras (apparently). :(
Well, she probably was not his real mom and may have only rented borrowed him for the trip through Honduras Anaxagoras.

You wouldn't have wanted her to kidnap that child, would you?
("Well of course not Biff!)

Anyway: The Caravan Exposes the Democrats
Democrats don’t want to talk about the migrant caravan. Last weekend, Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer put out a joint statement accusing Trump and Republicans of being “desperate to change the subject from health care to immigration because he knows that health care is the number one issue Americans care about.”

Liberal commentators have been urging Democrats to refute Trump’s accusation that the party supports open borders. There are the taunting headlines like “No, Democrats Don’t Want ‘Open Borders.’” There are the opinion columnists who point out that every Democratic senator in 2013 voted for the Gang of Eight immigration bill, which included a large amnesty but had weak enforcement mechanisms.

Mexicans shower the caravan with kindness — and tarps, tortillas and medicine
PIJIJIAPAN, Mexico — Everything Pedro Osmin Ulloa was wearing, from the black felt shoes with the gold buckles to the shimmery blue button-down, was as new to him as he was to Mexico.

The 30-year-old Honduran corn farmer and dogged sojourner in the migrant caravan was dressed head-to-toe in donated clothes. His 3-year-old son, Alexander, played with donated toys. And the rest of the family — his wife, his two brothers and a cousin — sat on the sidewalk eating beef stew and tortillas ladled out for them by residents of this bustling market town in Mexico’s southern Chiapas state.

Any and all of the Central American migrants who passed through that Mexican town and benefited from their charity should automatically be disqualified from asylum status in the US.

Instead they should seek asylum in Mexico, in accordance with Article 31 of the Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees, which in essence describes the safe third country principle.

That is to say, if you are truly a refugee — and not just looking to escape crime, corruption, or poverty (which are not sufficient for refugee status) — then you should seek asylum status in the first safe country you come to.

Seems to me, the above story is sufficient evidence those refugees have found safe refuge in that town, and they should seek asylum there and not walk another 1000 or more miles to reach "safety".

Secondly, it is not necessary to cross into the US to apply for asylum. There are many US consulates in Mexico (and elsewhere) where refugees can apply, without needing to walk all the way to the US border. Rhetorical question: And why would any of them choose to walk the extra miles to get to California when Texas is much much closer? Answer: because the batshit crazy government of Kalifornia welcomes them to their land of free stuff.

This (and so many other reasons) is why so many people think this "caravan" is a total scam on the US. If this caravan succeeds in any way at all, it will only encourage more and bigger "caravans" in the future.

The supreme irony is that for all the badmouthing of the US by liberals, and what a terrible, racist, bigoted country we are, the US is still the number one choice of these Central American migrants. Why don't any of them say they will keep on walking and apply for asylum in Canada? Think about that. [/rant]

We need more individual corn farmers because there is a market for Artesian Corn.

Seriously folks, wtf is this guy going to do here?

Had an exchange with an idiot friend who said that lettuce would cost $14 a head or something without immigrant labor. I pointed out that if that is the case, then the price is artificially depressed thru the systematic oppression of brown skinned people. And that we should let the price find it's own level even if it means that his effete eating is going to cost more.

I have no doubt whatsoever about your assertion.

If I may ask the next obvious question, which of those reasons would be valid if used by the US to encourage the migrants to seek asylum elsewhere?

FTFY....

I wonder what would happen if we restricted welfare and other benefits to citizens?
What would happen if we built the wall?
B-b-but once they swim the river they are ON US SOIL - what then skeeve?

Okay, What if we implemented Hungary's method of dealing with folks who want to come in?
i.e. let them camp "inside of the border" but outside the wall, until such time as their application for asylum is approved?

Oh, you think they might get bored and look for work/free shit elsewhere?
Oh well.....

Migrant caravan members reject offer to stay in Mexico
Under the "You are at home" plan, they would have received benefits if they applied for refugee status and stayed in the country's two southernmost states.

ARRIAGA, Mexico — Several thousand Central American migrants turned down a Mexican offer of benefits if they applied for refugee status and stayed in the country's two southernmost states, vowing to set out before dawn Saturday to continue their long trek toward the U.S. border.

Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto announced what he called the "You are at home" plan, offering shelter, medical attention, schooling and jobs to Central Americans in Chiapas and Oaxaca states if they applied, calling it a first step toward permanent refugee status. Authorities said more than 1,700 had already applied for refugee status.

But after one of the caravan's longest days of walking and hanging from passing trucks, the bulk of the migrants were boisterous Friday evening in their refusal to accept anything less than safe passage to the U.S. border.
That sounds like a very generous offer from the Mexican president.

They are not "refugees" or they'd take the Mexican offer.

This frees up Trump not to treat them as refugees.

It might come in handy at the international tribunal for not being found guilty of all charges.

Central American caravan moves on in spite of Mexico jobs offer
ARRIAGA, Mexico (Reuters) - A U.S.-bound caravan of Central American migrants pressed on through southern Mexico on Saturday, in spite of government offers of jobs, as authorities stepped up efforts to disperse the convoy that has angered U.S. President Donald Trump.

'Barbed wire used properly can be a beautiful sight': Trump marvels at the barricades being set up at the border in passionate rally appearance just three days before the midterms

WTF is it with the Brits and their long titles...anyway;
President Donald Trump once again focused on illegal immigration during a Saturday afternoon rally in Belgrade, Montana, as he makes his final push to get supporters out to the polls in the midterm elections, which are now just three days away.

Dipping into familiar rhetoric from previous rallies, Trump boasted about the military presence that's been ordered to meet the migrant caravan currently en route to the US-Mexico border from Central America.

As some 7,000 troops make their way to Texas, Arizona and California through this weekend, Trump praised the barricades that are being erected along the border, remarking: 'Barbed wire used properly can be a beautiful sight.'

Maybe the Donald mixed up his speeches; the barbed wire line was for his 11/11 speech on the centenary of the Great War.

Whatever your position on the issues, who can deny a clusterfuck is about to happen?

US militia groups planning to form their own caravan and head to border: report
The Hill
Civilian militia groups are reportedly headed to the border to try to help enforce U.S. immigration law as roughly 6,000 immigrants move northward through Mexico.

"We’ll observe and report, and offer aid in any way we can," the president of the Texas Minutemen, Shannon McGauley, told The Washington Post. "We've proved ourselves before, and we'll prove ourselves again."

McGauley said that the Texas Minutemen have 100 volunteers headed to the border, with more likely on the way. They are reportedly packing coolers, tents, guns and aerial drones for their trip.

This is the lie that never dies. Fact is farm labor makes up a tiny fraction of the cost in the grocery store. The biggest costs passed on to the consumer are tranportation and spoilage. IIRC a 40% increas in farm labor wages would result in a 3-4% increase in the price of produce at the grocery store. So little that you'd never even notice amidst the normal price fluctuations.

'Turn back now, because you're not getting in:'...
President Donald Trump on Sunday said that voting for Democrats would support the caravan of Central American migrants, which he referred to as "an invasion."

Speaking at a campaign rally in Chattanooga, Tennessee in support of Republican Senate candidate Marsha Blackburn, Trump lashed out against the numbers of migrants making their way to the southern border.

"That's an invasion. I don't care what they say," Trump said.

"Turn back now, because you're not getting in," he said of the roughly 4,000 Central American migrants steadily moving north towards the United States border.
Kind of sounds like a line in the sand to me....

Modulo charged language about it being an invasion, that is pretty much the explicit Democratic Party official position.
