The Domestic violence connection

Example is but one of many.

The family of a woman who authorities say was killed by her boyfriend’s ex-wife while decorating a Christmas tree is sounding a warning about the devastating impact of domestic violence that goes beyond two people.

Lisa Vilate Williams, 26, was making homemade ornaments with her boyfriend’s twin 3-year-olds at his apartment on Sunday when his ex-wife, Chelsea Watrous Cook, 32, burst in and shot her to death in front of the children, police said.
What the hell is it with people, anyway. Substance abuse? Psychosis? Nature of the beast?

Large numbers Pyro. Remember, if she is the worst person in a million ... that means over 300 people like that in this country.

While everyone is fixated on mass shooters (thus creating more mass shooters: herp derp), the real violence problem (outside of drug/gang/etc) is domestic violence.

It's hard to be a skeptic and not fall into a cynicism because of the misplaced priorities on addressing homicide.

It gets glossed over, before and after people die.

Except for a man scorned, maybe.

Love's family claims that Coulter became upset when he found out Love was dating his ex-girlfriend.

Love had reportedly been going to Coulter's house to pick up his belongings that he had left at the house when he stayed there. His family believes he was likely at the home doing that when he was killed.

Love's family said Coulter had been harassing the couple for a while and that they had gone to police about him. Police said Coulter had threatened Love with a shovel just last week.

Last year, 50,000 women worldwide were killed by intimate partners or family members — a figure that translates to 1.3 per every 100,000 women, according to a global study on gender-related killing of women and girls released this month by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

Break the data down by continent, and the highest rate is in Africa at 3.1 victims per 100,000 females, with rates in descending order of 1.6 in the Americas, 1.3 in Oceania, 0.9 in Asia and 0.7 in Europe.

And that is only part of the story revealed in the report. These numbers represent the majority, at 58 percent, of an annual total of 87,000 global female homicides. That leaves 42 percent, or 27,000 murders, perpetrated by people outside the family, often for reasons rooted in cultural traditions or beliefs.

Intimate partners or family members, yeah. Not exclusive to any culture.

Not sure what you're saying, but a boyfriend's ex-wife isn't an intimate partner or family member to her.

It is usually the case for all violent crimes other than armed robbery, that the perp is personally known to the victim.
