Turing test passed again and again treated as a prank.

Post by Abdul Alhazred » Mon Oct 24, 2016 1:34 pm

And unlike Microsoft's racist stoner chatbot (the first Turing test passer), this one wrote a paper on nuclear physics that is way over the head of current art.

And no one wants to believe it, so they rationalize.

At least that's how I choose to interpret this story. :coolspecs:

These jokers need to actually read the submissions before accepting them. An example of Chump's 'extreme vetting', perhaps.
You can lead them to knowledge, but you can't make them think.

Turing was a great man, but I'm afraid he got this one wrong.

Passing for human is not an adequate test of conscious intelligence. :)

Don't see how it qualifies as passing the Turing test. Autocomplete != AI.

Just because the AI is a little on the gullible side doesn't mean it failed the Turing test. :BigGrin3:

The dumbing down of humanity has made the current incarnation of the test invalid.
What a man believes upon grossly insufficient evidence is an index into his desires -- desires of which he himself is often unconscious.

The OP link is an indictment of the peer review system.

100% guarantee, if the title of the paper was something like : Vaccine link to Autism , it would be have not been accepted, no matter how well done the science was.

It seems that human technology has reached a point where we keep breaking the Turing barrier again and again without even trying.

I think Turing's mistake was that he expected people to try his test with actual attempts at artificial intelligence, not just cleverly programmed chatbots.

Technical details are not relevant, and neither is intention.

The whole point of the Turing test is that it deliberately sidesteps the philosophical issues about whether something "really" thinks.

A simple chat does not prove anything. Where are the double-blind studies of a statistically significant samples of people?

That doesn't sound kosher at all.
