Putin passes law that will ban VPNs in Russia
... Leonid Levin, chairman of the Duma’s committee on information policy and technology, has said that the law is not targeted at “introducing new bans for law-abiding citizens.” Instead, he claims it is to prohibit access to illegal content. The scope of what is considered “illegal content” in Russia, however, has widened considerably during Putin’s third term as president, with the government exerting more control over what people access or post online. ...

My prediction: This will cause plenty of people lots of hassle (including whoever is chosen to be made an example of) but will not significantly dent the flow of "illegal" content. Things that are "banned" and that there is a way to obtain without being reliably caught, will be in higher demand than if it were left alone.
"If fighting is sure to result in victory, then you must fight! Sun Tzu said that, and I'd say he knows a little bit more about fighting than you do, pal, because he invented it, and then he perfected it so that no living man could best him in the ring of honor. Then, he used his fight money to buy two of every animal on earth, and then he herded them onto a boat, and then he beat the crap out of every single one. And from that day forward any time a bunch of animals are together in one place it's called a zoo! (Beat) Unless it's a farm!"

The laws in Russia are not designed to stop illegal activity. They laws in Russia are designed have an excuse ready to punish someone when they step out of line.

He also put LASERs on his jets. Sounds cool but probably less range then a Gatling gun. Still, now we got to have them too. Which is cool. Every jet should have a laser.
