Apparently no point at all.

Which is disappointing, since Doctor X often has a well reasoned and well articulated point to make.

But like the rest of us, perhaps sometimes not.

That's why some of us get paid the big bucks.
It has value only inasmuch new compilers have to address it and write to it correctly.

Are you writing a compiler for a new processor? Sure, you probably get paid big bucks. I don't think that's you.

 That is factually incorrect. And I have the 1099s and W2s to prove it.

I am not a compiler writer and yet I have been paid big bucks to write real-time applications in assembler code for embedded microprocessors.

Yeah, right.

It doesn't matter whether you believe me. What matters is that I know for a fact your claim is wrong. Not only did I actually get paid good money to write assembler code (and not for a compiler) and did so for many years, but I also cited another source that refutes your claim. I notice you did not address that inconvenient detail.

Actually I rather thought Rob was just being difficult. If he's actually challenging you on this I take no position, except I don't see why you'd lie about it.

Was the wikipedia source not sufficient to refute Rob's claim about assembly language? I added my own first hand professional experience to demonstrate I am not as ignorant about his topic as Rob seems to think.

I never offered to post my personal tax forms.
And it's unreasonable to expect me to post them.

Back when I was in college, I wrote an 8088 assembly language program that let me play background music on the PC speaker while doing real work at the same time.

Didn't own a PC so I did it in the lab where all could see.

It is proof of how ancient I am that this was considered really really hot stuff by my professors. :oldman:

I'm sure xouper would say that was the last Real Programming I ever did. :P
