apps et al.

Post by ed » Mon Jan 29, 2018 3:52 pm

What is an app, exactly? It appears to be more than a simple link to a website. Why is it better than such a link? I have a web store that is optimized for different devices. Why should my "app" be anything other than a link?

Thank you.

An app is anything you want.

"App" -- A marketing term.

You know exactly what I mean.

I would slap you silly if you where here, or I there. Either way.

I am in no mood for your tomfoolery today.

It's an application. Do you mean mobile app - one that runs on the device - or web app - just a fancy website that behaves like a program?
It's "pea-can", man.

A mobile app is just a crippled version of the website that you can't zoom.

Sun Tzu said that, and I'd say he knows a little bit more about fighting than you do, pal, because he invented it, and then he perfected it so that no living man could best him in the ring of honor. Then, he used his fight money to buy two of every animal on earth, and then he herded them onto a boat, and then he beat the crap out of every single one. And from that day forward any time a bunch of animals are together in one place it's called a zoo! (Beat) Unless it's a farm!"

Thank you.
An App is ultimately better for you as a business owner. If you can incentivize your clients to download the app, you will gain access to data about the client (GPS location, phone use, phone type, etc.) than what website may give you, as well as have more control on marketing to that client. With an app, you also will gain access to more power and features from the phone's hardware and software as well.

I forgot what side Ed was looking at this from. I agree with all that from the standpoint of the business owner.

There will be some potential customers that resist using the app on general principle (in some cases, for the very reason that the business owner would prefer them to use it). You'll want to consider making sure that the web and mobile web versions are adequate for that group, even if you want to incentivize use of the app.

ok, thanks. we get 70% (<>) of our traffic from devices other than a pc. It seems to me that making the buying simpler is a positive. Negotiating our site from a phone is really a chore.

Is it designed to be mobile friendly?

never thought about this.

I figured everyone knew the term "storefront" referred to an e-commerce store. Asked my 7 year old grandson and he Shit, he should have one already.

Am I wrong? Is this term really not ubiquitous??????????
