I stumbled across this a while ago - thought I'd share. Well, I like it, anyway.

Thanks for the post, I'm always interested by nice music. I'll say this:

He's good, but not outstanding. Going up and down the blues scale with the right hand and throwing in some chords – even diminished ones – with the left isen't that difficult.

(And we could have a whole rant about "young white well-fed and carefree male" playing the blues' clothes, but I won't get entrapped into that bog…)

But mostly my point is that with such a thin scaffold that music definitely needs a voice. Here's one, nothing fancy; if you're interested there's a lot of weird blues piano out there.

You know her from:

here she solo pianos:

she is playing the "theme" from the series Cowboy Bebop--it shows up in a number of songs and is the basis of the entire series.

Needs harp.

All of it.
Shit happens. The older you get, the more often shit happens. So you have to try not to give a shit even when you do. Because, if you give too many shits, you've created your own shit creek and there's no way out other than swimming through the shit. Oh, and fuck.

You're correct about the basic twelve bar blues progression being a thin scaffold, Witness but that is its great strength; it's accessible and very versatile.

Some, like (the to me, wonderful) Captain Beefheart took it to barely recognisable extremes at times. He did, however garner some respect from the "real" bluesmen.

It's all good to me. :)

Strange video, that. All those white people watching from literally the other side of the tracks. That must have been purposeful.

Audience segregated by law.

That's what it was like.

Some people tell me that this is bluesy. I don't know, seems a stretch to me, like not quite the right beat for blues. The full thing will be out in the summer.

Well, I suppose it has twelve bars in it somewhere...

Says it way better than I could have!

@AA, AC & AN: woulden't have imagined that, nevar (for the audience segregation in the video). And those cunts were still inefficient: black notes remained mingled with white notes, he!

OK, dropped in because I "stumbled upon" a pleasant boogie piano vid (just noticed they're both whiteys – that PC? ):

Of course! A perfect form for a lot of things, notably improvisation. But I meant the OP pianist's production on that canvas. Sorry if my comment was ambiguous.

Agree. Imagine the Emirates drinking booze – we woulden't have a decent wine or scotch left for our parched palates. So you keep the blondes, I'll content myself with the rest.
